BACKGROUND The aim of this study was to improve the accuracy of guidewire insertion in the femoral neck fracture surgery using cannulated screw fixation. MATERIAL AND METHODS A novel aiming device was designed and manufactured. Between January 2010 and June 2012, 64 femoral neck fracture patients were included into the study. All 64 patients were divided into 2 groups randomly. The aiming devic...
ABSTRACT Cannulated screw fixation is a widely accepted surgical method for management of fractures of the neck of femur especially in patients with poor premorbid conditions, minimally displaced fractures and those from a younger age group. A five year retrospective study was carried out in 53 consecutive patients between 2006 to 2010 to determine the pattern of injuries, management, outcomes ...
We describe a case of symptomatic focal femoral osteolysis around a screw hole distal to the hydroxyapatite-coated portion of a cannulated femoral component in a revision hip replacement. No locking screw had been inserted into this, the most proximal of the three distal holes for locking screws. The presence of polyethylene wear debris in the tissue excised from the lesion suggested that it ha...
Breakage rates of tricortical syndesmotic screws after weight bearing range from 10% to 29%. Removal of the portion of the broken screw buried within the tibia often proves quite difficult. We report a new technique to remove a broken cannulated syndesmotic screw. This technique is simple, time saving, and less traumatic than previously reported methods of broken syndesmotic screw removal.
Closed reduction and fixation with 3 cannulated screws is a widely accepted surgery for the treatment of femoral neck fractures. However, how to obtain optimal screw placement remains unclear. In the current study, the authors designed a guide pin positioning system for femoral neck fracture cannulated screw fixation and examined its application value by comparing it with freehand guide needle ...
BACKGROUND: The use of pedicle screws is becoming increasingly popular for spinal surgery practice as the technology advances. Screw pullout due to bone quality and loading conditions is one of the most common problems observed after pedicle screw fixation. Several solutions were studied to prevent screw pullout. These can be investigated under three main categories: screw design, expandable sc...
