Alcohol synthesis is critical to the chemical and pharmaceutical industries. The addition of water across olefins to form primary alcohols (anti-Markovnikov olefin hydration) would be a broadly useful reaction but has largely proven elusive; an indirect hydroboration/oxidation sequence requiring stoichiometric borane and oxidant is currently the most practical methodology. Here, we report a mor...
background: oxidative modification of low-density lipoprotein (ldl) appears to be an early step in the pathogenesis of atherosclerosis. meanwhile, myeloperoxidase (mpo)-catalyzed reaction is one of the potent pathway for ldl oxidation in vivo. the aim of this study was to evaluate in vitro antioxidant effects of vitamins c and e on ldl oxidation mediated by mpo. methods: mpo was isolated from f...
Effect of the outer fraction of dialyzed water extract of bigeye tuna meat on NaCI-catalyzed oxidation of linoleate was examined using model system. Oxidation of linoleate was carried out at 25°C and Aw 0.84 and followed by determinations of remaining linoleate and POV. Linoleate oxidation was markedly inhibited by meat fraction which is diffusive through a cellophane membraae, adsorptive on ca...
In the presence of Escherichia coli, myeloperoxidase-catalyzed oxidation of chloride ion resulted in formation of long-lived chloramine and/or chloramide derivatives of bacterial components. The same amount of these nitrogen-chlorine (N-Cl) derivatives was obtained with either hypochlorous acid (HOCl) or the myeloperoxidase system, indicating that myeloperoxidase catalyzed the oxidation of chlo...
The oxidation of n-pentanol by tetramethylammonium fluorochromate in acidic solution wasstudied using spectrophotometric technique. The reaction was arranged to be under pseudo firstorderconditions respect to the oxidant. A Michaelis-Menten type kinetic was observed respect tothe substrate. The reaction is catalyzed by hydrogen ions. Dependences of the reaction rates ontemperature and different...
The oxidation of alkyl and aryl aldehydes to their corresponding carboxylic acids has been achieved through the action of a biomimetic bridged flavin catalyst. The reaction uses readily available 35% aqueous hydrogen peroxide and is operationally simple. The oxidation is a green and sustainable reaction, obviating chlorinated solvents with minimal byproducts.
