This is the first report of chrysanthemum virus B (CVB) and chlorotic mottle viroid (CChMVd) on Chrysanthemum × morifolium cultivars, in South Africa. Samples were collected from plants showing vein clearing, mosaic chlorosis, Western Cape province. RNAtag-seq was applied indicated presence CVB all four samples co-infection with CChMVd one sample. The confirmed using RT-PCR Sanger sequencing.

Quantitative real-time PCR (qPCR) is a popular and powerful tool used to understand the molecular mechanisms of flower development. However, the accuracy of this approach depends on the stability of reference genes. The capitulum of chrysanthemums is very special, which is consisting of ray florets and disc florets. There are obvious differences between the two types of florets in symmetry, gen...

WRKY transcription factors are known to function in a number of plant processes. Here we have characterized 15 WRKY family genes of the important ornamental species chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium). A total of 15 distinct sequences were isolated; initially internal fragments were amplified based on transcriptomic sequence, and then the full length cDNAs were obtained using RACE (rapid a...

The short-day plants Begonia cheimantha, Chrysanthemum morifolium (one pot and one cut cultivar), Euphorbia pulcherrima (poinsettia) and Kalanchoe blossfeldiana were grown at vapour pressure de®cits (VPDs) of 155, 420 and 660 Pa (corresponding to 93, 81 and 70% relative air humidity, respectively). The lowest VPD delayed time to ̄owering by three to four days in pot and cut chrysanthemum but di...

Chrysanthemum stunt viroid (CSVd) was inoculated into two chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium) cultivars, the CSVd-susceptible cultivar Piato and the CSVd-resistant cultivar Mari Kazaguruma. For CSVd inoculation, grafting and Agrobacterium-mediated inoculation were used. In grafting experiments, CSVd was detectable in Mari Kazaguruma after grafting onto infected Piato, but after removal of ...

Chrysanthemums (Chrysanthemum morifolium) are susceptible to tobacco mosaic virus (TMV). TMV-based expression vectors have been used in high-throughput experiments for production of foreign protein in plants and also expressing green fluorescent protein (GFP) to allow visualization of TMV movement. Here, we used TMV expressing the GFP to examine the infection of chrysanthemum by a TMV-based exp...

The white petals of chrysanthemum (Chrysanthemum morifolium Ramat.) are believed to contain a factor that inhibits the accumulation of carotenoids. To find this factor, we performed polymerase chain reaction-Select subtraction screening and obtained a clone expressed differentially in white and yellow petals. The deduced amino acid sequence of the protein (designated CmCCD4a) encoded by the clo...

Chrysanthemum has been cultivated for more than 2000 years and today, it is the world’s second most economically important floricultural crop following the rose (Teixeira da silva, 2003). Due to high popularity and demand for chrysanthemum it has become one of the first commercial targets for Micro propagation and thus tissue culture can be utilized for its large scale production. Regeneration ...
