A disposable preoxidation technique that dramatically improves the detection and identification of volatile organic compounds (VOCs) by a colorimetric sensor array is reported. Passing a vapor stream through a tube packed with chromic acid on silica immediately before the colorimetric sensor array substantially increases the sensitivity to less-reactive VOCs and improves the limits of detection...

The performance of a multispectral (more than three color-records) camera is addressed from the standpoint of pixel-to-pixel error introduced by image detection. Matrix equations are given for the propagation of this image noise from camera signal through colorimetric transformations. Results of the analysis are shown to agree with experimental results, allowing the prediction of system colorim...

The synthesis of a novel aza-BODIPY dye functionalized with fused pyrazine rings, suitable for use as a selective colorimetric and fluorometric sensor for NH(4)(+), is outlined. In addition to significant fluorescence quenching, an obvious colorimetric change from green to red-pink is observed enabling facile "naked-eye" detection of NH(4)(+).

We describe a modified colorimetric method for determining procainamide in plasma by use of a diazotization and coupling reaction with N-(1-naphthyl)-ethylenediamine dihydrochloride (Marshall's reagent). The sensitivity of the assay is increased twofold over the originally reported colorimetric method, and the lower limit of detection for the assay of a 1.0-ml plasma sample has been decreased t...

Pyrophosphate anions play key roles in various biological and chemical processes. During the last few years, many exciting results have emerged regarding the development of fluorescent and colorimetric sensors for this biologically important species. In this review, we will cover the fluorescent and colorimetric chemosensors developed for the detection of pyrophosphate (PPi) since 2010.

OBJECTIVE To incorporate the first polymerase chain reaction (PCR) assay for Calymmatobacterium granulomatis into a colorimetric detection system for use in routine diagnostic laboratories. METHODS A capture oligonucleotide specific for the Klebsiella phoE gene was covalently linked to tosyl activated magnetic beads. Biotinylated phoE PCR products obtained from 14 positive specimens from pati...

A colorimetric microarray for the multiplexed detection of recurrence of bladder cancer including protein markers interleukin-8 (IL8), decorin (DCN), and vascular endothelial growth factor (VEGF) was established to enable easy and cheap read-out by a simple office scanner paving the way for quick therapy monitoring at doctors' offices. The chip is based on the principle of a sandwich immunoassa...

A new, highly selective and sensitive colorimetric chemosensor 1 for detection of Cu(2+) ions in aqueous solution was developed. Receptor 1 detected Cu(2+) ions by changing its color from colorless to yellow. Moreover, the Cu(2+)-sensitive compound was used as a colorimetric pH detector based on a color change due to 1-Cu(2+) complex formation identifiable by the naked eye.

A colorimetric assay for convenient detection of miRNA and RNase H activity was established in a homogeneous and label-free manner based on conformational and colorimetric changes of a polythiophene derivative (PMNT) in the duplex of DNA/PMNT and triplex of DNA/miRNA/PMNT.
