In this paper we propose a general approach for reasoning in space The approach is com posed of a set of two general constraints to govern the spatial relationships between objects in space and two rules to propagate relationships between those ob jects The reasoning method is applicable to objects of random complexity and in any space dimension The approach is based on a uniform representation...

Huge amounts of data available in a variety of digital forms has been collected and stored in thousands of repositories However the information relevant to a user or application need may be stored in mul tiple forms in di erent repositories Answering a user query may require correlation of information at a semantic level across multiple forms and representations We present a three level archite...

We provide a conceptual framework for understanding similarities and diierences among various schemes of compositional representation, emphasizing problems that arise in modelling aspects of human language. We propose six abstract dimensions that suggest a space of possible compo-sitional schemes. Temporality turns out to play a key role in deening several of these dimensions. From studying how...

EarthScope is the United States Earth Science Pro gram to explore the structure and evolution of the North American continent and understand processes control ling earthquakes and volcanoes. A major part of the EarthScope project is the Transportable Array which will be deployed over the next decade over the entire continental United States. This Transportable Array will provide an unparalleled...

This paper develops a case study using the process algebra CSP to enable controlled interaction between B machines This illustrates how B machines are essential components within a combined communi cating system The development steps used to build the case study are new they are applications of theoretical results which allow us to focus on the external interface of a combined communicating sys...

A new opacity correction approach for oversampled volume ray casting is introduced. While the only existing opacity correction method in the literature is based on the assumption of dataset homogeneity, the new opacity correction method introduced in this paper is a faster, generalized voxel-by-voxel approach which does not assume dataset homogeneity. The new opacity correction avoids the datas...

The Heisenberg inequality ∆X∆P ≥ h̄/2 can be replaced by an exact equality, for suitably chosen measures of position and momentum uncertainty, which is valid for all wavefunctions. The significance of this “exact” uncertainty relation is discussed, and results are generalised to angular momentum and phase, photon number and phase, time and frequency, and to states described by density operators....

Casting has many process variations depending upon the material, the type of pattern, mould and the pouring technique like sand casting, investment casting, die casting, squeeze casting and lost foam casting. Sand casting is the most widely used process which can be used to produce intricate parts in almost every metal that can be melted. Casting defects analysis is process of finding the root ...

The mold-filling behavior in the casting of aluminum alloy (A413) using lost foam casting (LFC) was explored. The effects of gate numbers, type of gating and casting thickness on the filling behavior were evaluated. Although, unlike convectional casting process, the gating system showed little effect onfilling ability, casting thickness created a greater effect on the mold filling. In contrast ...

In recent work, the author and others have studied compo-sitional algebras of Petri nets. Here we consider mathematical aspects of the pure linking algebras that underly them. We characterise composition of nets without places as the composition of spans over appropriate categories of relations, and study the underlying algebraic structures.
