This paper presents the thermal vibration analysis of double-layer graphene sheet embedded in polymer elastic medium, using the plate theory and nonlocal continuum mechanics for small scale effects. The graphene is modeled based on continuum plate theory and the axial stress caused by the thermal effects is also considered. Nonlocal governing equations of motion for this double-layer graphene s...

We have calculated low-lying quasiparticle excitation spectra of rotating three-dimensional Bose-Einstein condensates. We find, as opposed to the prediction of hydrodynamic continuum theories, a minimum in the Tkachenko mode spectrum at intermediate rotation frequencies of the harmonic trap. Such a minimum can harbour a Tkachenko quasiparticle with zero excitation energy. We discuss the experim...

We study the λφ 4 1+1 kink solion and the zero-mode contribution to the Kink soliton mass in regions beyond the semiclassical regime. The calculations are done in the non-trivial scaling region and where appropriate the results are compared with the continuum, semiclassical values. We show, as a function of parameter space, where the zero-mode contributions become significant.

We extend the input–output formalism to study behavior of uncoupled discrete modes (bosonic cavity and fermionic qubits) when they decay same Markovian continuum. When continuum interacts with only a single mode, this is irreversible. However, multiple develop correlations collectively. In these manifest in additional terms quantum Langevin equation. For two modes, collective can dramatically l...

Lattice Monte Carlo simulations are performed for the SU(2) Yang Mills gauge theory in the presence of an Abelian background with external sources to obtain information on the effective potential. The goal is to investigate the lowest Landau mode that, in the continuum one-loop effective potential, is the crucial mode for instability. It is shown that also in the lattice formulation this lowest...

We demonstrate the collapse of a continuum of transverse modes in a self-imaging ring resonator that is photorefractively pumped. The resulting localized mode has an arbitrary transverse location. The mode collapse results from placing saturable photorefractive gain and loss media in spatially conjugate resonator planes. The transverse position of the localized mode is unstable under small cavi...

Electronic states at domain walls in bilayer graphene are studied by analyzing their four- and two-band continuum models, by performing numerical calculations on the lattice, and by using quantum geometric arguments. The continuum theories explain the distinct electronic properties of boundary modes localized near domain walls formed by interlayer electric field reversal, by interlayer stacking...

In this paper we derive the equations for the continuous ideal magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) spectrum of twodimensional coronal loops, including gravity and expansion, in general curvilinear coordinates. The equations clearly show the coupling between Alfvén and slow magnetosonic continuum waves when both pressure and geodesic curvature of the magnetic field lines are present. Gravity always gives ...

We present the experimental observation of bound states in the continuum. Our experiments are carried out in an optical waveguide array structure, where the bound state (guided mode) is decoupled from the continuum by virtue of symmetry only. We demonstrate that breaking the symmetry of the system couples this special bound state to continuum states, leading to radiative losses. These experimen...

We investigate the two-neutron transfer modes induced by (t,p) reactions in neutron-rich oxygen isotopes. The nuclear response to the pair transfer is calculated in the framework of continuum-Quasiparticle Random Phase Approximation (cQRPA). The cQRPA allows a consistent determination of the residual interaction and an exact treatment of the continuum coupling. The (t,p) cross sections are calc...
