Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) have received attention in various applications because of their distinctive properties. In this work, DESs were used as functionalizing agents for graphene due to their potential to introduce new functional groups and cause other surface modifications. Eighteen different types of ammonium- and phosphonium-salt-based DESs were prepared and characterized by FTIR. Th...
A simple and inexpensive method for producing water-stable pulp fibre yarns using a deep eutectic mixture composed of choline chloride and urea (ChCl/urea) was developed in this work. Deep eutectic solvents (DESs) are eutectic mixtures consisting of two or more components that together have a lower melting point than the individual components. DESs have been previously studied with respect to c...
Dihydropyrimidine and amidoalkyl naphthol derivatives have been prepared efficiently in a one-pot synthesis using ZnCl2/urea and ZnCl2/acetamide deep eutectic systems as reaction medium and homogeneous catalyst. This method offers some advantages such as simple procedure, inexpensive solvent and catalyst and good yields of the final products in short reaction times. The use of non-toxic and env...
The solubility of DNA in bio-based deep eutectic solvents (DESs) consisting of mixtures of choline chloride with levulinic acid, glycerol, ethylene glycol, sorbitol and resorcinol was investigated. The macromolecule was found to be soluble and chemically and structurally stable in DESs consisting of mixtures containing glycerol and ethylene glycol. Furthermore recyclability of the DESs was demo...
Deep eutectic solvents (DES) as a new kind of green solvent were used for the first time to excellently extract phenolic compounds from model oil. It was also proved that DES could be used to extract other polar compounds from non-polar or weakly-polar solvents by liquid-phase microextraction.
The first electrochemical series in a deep eutectic solvent (DES) is described. Speciation resulting from the unusual chemistry of the choline chloride based DES is used to explain both similarities and differences from aqueous media. We give examples of how these differences can be exploited in technologically important systems.
Deep eutectic solvents (DES) have recently been postulated as possible environments where protein structure may be preserved in the absence of water. Here we present our results towards understanding protein conformation in choline chloride-based DES and mixtures with water. Lysozyme and bovine serum albumin have been investigated by means of circular dichroism and small-angle neutron scattering.
The melting point of a deep eutectic solvent formed from a ternary mixture of ethylammonium bromide (EABr), butylammonium bromide (BABr) and urea is 10 °C, which is almost 40 °C lower than the melting points of binary DESs formed from either EABr:urea or BABr:urea mixtures. This reveals a new route to prepare room temperature DESs via mixing different cations.
