cystic echinococcosis caused by echinococcus spp. is considered endemic in iran. to clarify the present status of hydatidosis in iran the present review article is presented. authentic databases and search engines from 1996 onwards were utilized to enquire the situation of the disease in iran. human hydatidosis is responsible for approximately 1% of admission to surgical wards and the rate of...

A monoclonal antibody (mAb) to sheep red blood cells (SRBC), termed L180/1, is described that completely blocks rosette formation between SRBC and human or sheep T lymphocytes. L180/1 precipitated a minor glycoprotein of about approximately 42,000 mol wt from surface-labeled SRBC. This glycoprotein was partially affinity purified and found to block E rosette formation and to compete with anti-T...

The objective of this study was to determine the efficacy of supranutritional dietary selenium and vitamin E (Vit E) to ameliorate the effect of heat stress (HS) on oxidative status and acid-base balance in sheep. Thirty-two Merino × Poll Dorset ewes were acclimated to indoor individual pen feeding of a pelleted control diet (0.24 g Se and 10 IU of Vit E/kg DM) for 1 wk. Sheep were then moved t...

Background: Escherichia coli is a commensal-pathogenic organism, which includes a wide range of strains. Despite several advanced molecular-genomic technologies for detecting and identifying different strains of E. coli, Enterobacterial Repetitive Intergenic Consensus Polymerase Chain Reaction (ERIC-PCR) technique is ...

The purpose of this study was evaluation of leptin gene polymorphism by PCR-SSCP and its relationship with some growth traits in Lori Bakhtiari and crossbred of Lori Bakhtiari- Afshari sheep. Blood samples were collected from 58 sheep (male and female) of Lori-Bakhtiari in Shahr-e-Kord Sholi station and 42 sheep (male and female) of Lori Bakhtiari-Afshari crossbreed from villages of Shahr-...

A copy DNA (cDNA) corresponding to sheep immunoglobulin E (IgE) heavy chain messenger RNA (mRNA) has been isolated and sequenced. A fragment of the sheep epsilon (E) chain was initially synthesized using the polymerase chain reaction (PCR) and single stranded cDNA prepared from the mRNA of parasite stimulated sheep lymph nodes. This fragment was then used to probe a cDNA library, again prepared...

The aim of the present study is to determine the characteristics of genotype and phenotype of Echinococcus granulosus derived from wild sheep and to compare them with the strains of E. granulosus sensu stricto (sheep-dog) and E. granulosus camel strain (camel-dog) in Iran. In Khojir National Park, near Tehran, Iran, a fertile hydatid cyst was recently found in the liver of a dead wild sheep (Ov...

BACKGROUND Cystic Echinococcosis (CE), caused by infection with the Echinococcus granulosus (E. granulosus), represents considerable health problems in both humans and livestock. Nevertheless, the genetic program that regulates the host response to E. granulosus infection is largely unknown. Previously, using microarray analysis, we found that the innate immunity played a vital role in the E. g...

Maedi-Visna (MV) virus and caprine arthritis encephalitis (CAE) virus known as small ruminant lentiviruses (SRLVs) cause chronic diseases in susceptible animals. The main reservoirs of these viral agents are sheep and goat. In sheep, MV virus causes a disease as the same name of the virus. This is the first seroprevalence survey of SRLVs in sheep population of Khorasan-e-Razavi province in Iran...

Bacteriophage CEV1 was isolated from sheep resistant to Escherichia coli O157:H7 colonization. In vitro, CEV1 efficiently infected E. coli O157:H7 grown both aerobically and anaerobically. In vivo, sheep receiving a single oral dose of CEV1 showed a 2-log-unit reduction in intestinal E. coli O157:H7 levels within 2 days compared to levels in the controls.
