In this paper, a scheduling problem for multiple automated guided vehicles (AGVs) in a manufacturing system is proposed and formulated. Considering the due date of AGVs requiring for material handling among shops in a jobshop layout, their earliness and tardiness are significant in satisfying the expected cycle time and from an economic view point. Earliness results in AGVs waiting and tardines...

W e consider multimachine scheduling problems with earliness and tardiness costs. We first analyze problems in which the cost of a job is given by a general nondecreasing, convex function F of the absolute deviation of its completion time from a (common) unrestrictive duedate, and the objective is to minimize the sum of the costs incurred for all N jobs. (A special case to which considerable at...

We study the earliness-tardiness scheduling problem on a single machine with due date assignment and controllable processing times. We analyze the problem with three different due date assignment methods and two different processing time functions. For each combination of these, we provide a polynomialtime algorithm to find the optimal job sequence, due date values and resource allocation minim...

This paper considers the problem of linding an optimal schedule and a common due date for a set of jobs, in a static single machine system. The scheduling criterion is the minimization of the weighted sum of earliness and tardiness values. Different weights are considered as the earliness penalty and tardiness penalty, for each job. A branching procedure is presented for finding an optimal solu...

In this paper, we study a resource-constrained project scheduling problem in which a set of project activities have due dates. If the finish time of each one of these activities is not equal to its due date, an earliness or a tardiness cost exists for each tardy or early period. The objective is to minimize the sum of discounted weighted earliness-tardiness penalty costs of these activities. Sc...

We consider a multi-period order selection problem in ̄exible manufacturing systems, which is the problem of selecting orders to be produced in each period during the upcoming planning horizon with the objective of minimising earliness and tardiness costs and subcontracting costs. The earliness and tardiness costs are incurred if an order is not ®nished on time, while subcontracting cost is incu...

A fully polynomial time approximation scheme (FPTAS) with run time O( n m εm−1 ) is developed for a problem which combines common due window assignment and scheduling n jobs on m identical parallel machines. The problem criterion is bottleneck (min-max) such that the maximum cost, which includes job earliness, job tardiness and due window size costs, is minimized.

This paper addresses the one-machine scheduling problem with earliness-tardiness penalties. We propose a new branch-and-bound algorithm that can solve instances with up to 50 jobs and that can solve problems with even more general non-convex cost functions. The algorithm is based on the combination of a Lagrangean relaxation of resource constraints and new dominance rules.

This paper considers the problem of scheduling a given number of jobs on a single machine to minimize total earliness and tardiness when family setup times exist. The paper proposes optimal branch-and-bound algorithms for both the group technology assumption and if the group technology assumption is removed. A heuristic algorithm is proposed to solve larger problems with the group technology as...

Focusing on the just-in-time (JIT) operations management, earliness as well as, tardiness of jobs’ production and delivery should be discouraged. In accordance to this philosophy, scheduling problems involving earliness and tardiness penalties are very critical for the operations manager. In this paper, a new population heuristic based on the particle swarm optimization (PSO) technique is prese...
