THE POTENTIAL TO REGENERATE DAMAGED LIMBS AND hearts seems the subject of science fiction, but newts and zebrafish do it all the time. What can scientists learn from these simple creatures? Why have mammals not retained this remarkably useful property in the course of evolution? Can an evolutionary perspective on the mechanisms used by “lowly” organisms inform the approach to human tissue regen...

Much network theory research has been concerned with identifying and characterising networks in terms of their topology and various metrics such as degree distribution, connectedness, average path length, etc. More recently attention has shifted towards the processes by which networks are created and dynamically altered. A key challenge is linking the dynamics of processes operating on networks...

To test a proposition central to J. Belsky, L. Steinberg, and P. Draper's (1991) evolutionary theory of socialization-that pubertal maturation plays a role in linking early rearing experience with adolescent sexual risk taking (i.e., frequency of sexual behavior) and, perhaps, other risk taking (e.g., alcohol, drugs, delinquency)-the authors subjected longitudinal data on 433 White, 62 Black, a...

This paper studies the behavior of leverage ratios in a dynamic trade-off model with real frictions. Firms underutilize debt when financing investment to retain financial flexibility. Underutilization of debt persists even when firms exercise their last investment options, and it is more (less) severe for more back-loaded (front-loaded) investment opportunities. Thus, leverage dynamics cruciall...

We propose GRASP with evolutionary path-relinking, a metaheuristic resulting from the hybridization of GRASP, path-relinking, and evolutionary path-relinking. This metaheuristic is applied to a network migration problem. Experiments show that a GRASP with evolutionary path-relinking heuristic finds solutions faster than a heuristic based on GRASP with path-relinking as well as one based on pure...

World Wide Web has emerged as a primary means for storing and structuring information. In this paper, we present a framework for mining implicit associations among Web documents. We focus on the following problem: \For a given set of seed URLs, nd a list of Web pages which re ect the association among these seeds." In the proposed framework, associations of two documents are induced by the conn...

In the traditional approach to evolutionary game theory, the individuals of a population meet each other at random, and they have no control over the frequency or duration of interactions. Here we remove these simplifying assumptions. We introduce a new model, where individuals differ in the rate at which they seek new interactions. Once a link between two individuals has formed, the productivi...

Mobile robots are relevant dynamic systems in recent applications. Path planning is an essential task for these since it allows them to move from one location another safely and at affordable cost. has been studied extensively static scenarios. However, when the scenarios dynamic, research limited due complexity high cost of continuously re-planning robot’s movements ensure its safety. This pap...

In this paper we give a nesessary and sufficient condition for a Choquet integral model to be decomposable into an equivalent hierarchical Choquet integral model constructed by hierarchical combinations of some ordinary Choquet integral models. The condition is obtained by Inclution-Exclusion Covering (IEC). Moreover we show some properties on the set of IECs.
