Dematiaceous fungi are darkly pigmented, filamentary moulds and are common in the environment as plant saprophytes and pathogens. Incidental reports of corneal ulcers that have been caused by species of this group have appeared in the literature, but the relative importance of this species as potential comeal pathogens has not been appreciated. As a group, second to Fusarium solani and other mo...
Eleven antifungal drugs were tested against representative isolates of the four phylogenetic clades of the Fusarium solani species complex obtained in a multilocus sequence analysis. They all showed very poor activity, with no differences among the clades. Amphotericin B was the most active drug.
We sought the reservoir of Fusarium species in a hospital with cases of known fusarial infections. Cultures of samples from patients and the environment were performed and evaluated for relatedness by use of molecular methods. Fusarium species was recovered from 162 (57%) of 283 water system samples. Of 92 sink drains tested, 72 (88%) yielded Fusarium solani; 12 (16%) of 71 sink faucet aerators...
The destructive resolution of (6aR,S)-glaucine (Ic) was accomplished by oxidation of the (6aS)-(+)-enantiomer (Ia), using Fusarium solani ATCC 12823 to yield the unnatural alkaloid (6aR)-(-)-glaucine (Ib). Eighteen cultures were examined for their ability to metabolize the (6aR)-(-)-enantiomer (Ib), and Aspergillus flavipes ATCC 1030 was found to catalyze the stereoselective oxidation of this s...
The aim of the present investigation was to characterize a xylanaseproducing Fusarium solani isolate and to optimize cultural conditions for xylanase enzyme production from free and immobilized cells. Screening of Fusarium solani isolate was based on the diameter of the clear zone formation in oat spelt xylan agar plates. Fusarium solani isolate F7 was selected and optimized for xylanase enzyme...
Fusarium disease causes considerable losses in the cultivation of Piper nigrum, the black pepper used in the culinary world. Brazil was the largest producer of black pepper, but in recent years has lost this hegemony, with a significant reduction in its production, due to the ravages produced by the Fusarium solani f. sp. piperis, the fungus which causes this disease. Scientific research seeks ...
Chemical fungicides are used worldwide for enhance crop yield and control plant diseases. When crops are treated with chemical fungicides over a long period then some fungi develop resistance to these chemicals beside this these chemicals are harmful to other non target microorganism and disturb microbial community of soil. In view of these facts, it is urgent need to discover eco friendly, ren...
Fusariosis is a hyalohyphomycosis due to Fusarium species that mainly occurs in immunocompromised hosts. The clinical spectrum of Fusarium infection comprises localized and disseminated forms. A case of localized cutaneous fusariosis caused by Fusarium solani in a renal transplant patient is described, and the skin manifestations of the disease are discussed.
BACKGROUND To characterize Fusarium isolates from recent cases of fungal keratitis in contact lens wearers, and to investigate fungal association with MoistureLoc solution. METHODS We studied six fungal isolates from recent cases of keratitis in New York State. The isolates were characterized by nucleotide sequencing and phylogenetic analyses of multiple genes, and then typed using minisatell...
We used an in silico approach to survey and compare microsatellites in transcript sequences of four sequenced members of genus Fusarium. G + C content of transcripts was found to be positively correlated with the frequency of SSRs. Our analysis revealed that, in all the four transcript sequences studied, the occurrence, relative abundance and density of microsatellites varied and was not influe...
