Using the weighted residual formulation we derive a-posteriori estimates for Discontinuous Galerkin approximations of second order elliptic problems in mixed form. We show that our approach allows to include in a unified way all the methods presented so far in the literature.

We apply the weighted-residual approach recently introduced in [7] to derive dis-continuous Galerkin formulations for advection-diffusion-reaction problems. We devise the basic ingredients to ensure stability and optimal error estimates in suitable norms, and propose two new methods. 1. Introduction. In recent years Discontinuous Galerkin methods have become increasingly popular, and they have ...

This work presents a method to solve boundary value problems based on polynomial approximations and the application of the methods of moments and the Galerkin method. The weighted average residuals are evaluated by improved Gauss-Radau and Gauss-Lobatto quadratures, capable to exactly compute integrals of polynomials of degree 2n and 2n + 2 (where n is the number of internal quadrature points),...

This article considers a posteriori error estimation of specified functionals for first-order systems of conservation laws discretized using the discontinuous Galerkin (DG) finite element method. Using duality techniques, we derive exact error representation formulas for both linear and nonlinear functionals given an associated bilinear or nonlinear variational form. Weighted residual approxima...

For the simple layer potential V that is associated with the 3D Laplacian, we consider the weakly singular integral equation V φ = f . This equation is discretized by the lowest order Galerkin boundary element method. We prove convergence of an h-adaptive algorithm that is driven by a weighted residual error estimator. Moreover, we identify the approximation class for which the adaptive algorit...

We study the flow of an incompressible liquid film down a wavy incline. Applying a Galerkin method with only one ansatz function to the Navier–Stokes equations we derive a second order weighted residual integral boundary layer equation, which in particular may be used to describe eddies in the troughs of the wavy bottom. We present numerical results which show that our model is qualitatively an...

This article is concerned with the numerical detection of bifurcation points of nonlinear partial differential equations as some parameter of interest is varied. In particular, we study in detail the numerical approximation of the Bratu problem, based on exploiting the symmetric version of the interior penalty discontinuous Galerkin finite element method. A framework for a posteriori control of...

in this paper the meshless local petrov-galerkin (mlpg) method is implemented to study the buckling of isotropic cylindrical shells under axial load. displacement field equations, based on donnell and first order shear deformation theory, are taken into consideration. the set of governing equations of motion are numerically solved by the mlpg method in which according to a semi-inverse method, ...

to evaluate the earth seismic response due to earthquake effects, ground response analyses are used to predict ground surface motions for development of design response spectra, to compute dynamic stresses and strains for evaluation of liquefaction hazards, and to determine the earthquake induced forces that can lead to instability of earth and earth-retaining structures. most of the analytical...
