Coquand’s cubical set model for homotopy type theory provides the basis for a computational interpretation of the univalence axiom and some higher inductive types, as implemented in the cubical proof assistant. This paper contributes to the understanding of this model. We make three contributions: 1. Johnstone’s topological topos was created to present the geometric realization of simplicial se...

We will present a brief study of the homology of cubical sets, with two main purposes. First, this combinatorial structure is viewed as representing directed spaces, breaking the intrinsic symmetries of topological spaces. Cubical sets have a directed homology, consisting of preordered abelian groups where the positive cone comes from the structural cubes. But cubical sets can also express topo...

Several recent papers have addressed the problem of characterizing the f -vectors of cubical polytopes. This is largely motivated by the complete characterization of the f -vectors of simplicial polytopes given by Stanley, Billera, and Lee in 1980 [19] [4]. Along these lines Blind and Blind [5] have shown that unlike in the simplicial case, there are parity restrictions on the f -vectors of cub...

We define a notion of weak cubical category, abstracted from the structure of n-cubical cospans x : ∧ → X in a category X, where ∧ is the ‘formal cospan’ category. These diagrams form a cubical set with compositions x +i y in all directions, which are computed using pushouts and behave ‘categorically’ in a weak sense, up to suitable comparisons. Actually, we work with a ‘symmetric cubical struc...

We provide a number of new construction techniques for cubical complexes and cubical polytopes, and thus for cubifications (hexahedral mesh generation). As an application we obtain an instance of a cubical 4-polytope that has a non-orientable dual manifold (a Klein bottle). This confirms an existence conjecture of Hetyei (1995). More systematically, we prove that every normal crossing codimensi...

We present a high-order method employing Jacobi polynomial-based shape functions, as an alternative to the typical Legendre polynomial-based shape functions in solid mechanics, for solving dynamic threedimensional geometrically nonlinear elasticity problems. We demonstrate that the method has an exponential convergence rate spatially and a second-order accuracy temporally for the four classes o...

In this paper we show that graphs of “neighbourly” cubical complexes – cubical complexes in which every pair of vertices spans a (unique) cube – have good expansion properties, using a technique based on multicommodity flows. By showing that graphs of stable set polytopes are graphs of neighbourly cubical complexes we give a new proof that graphs of stable set polytopes have edge expansion 1.
