INTRODUCTION Osteopenic or osteoporotic bone changes of proximal humerus may cause fracture or pull out of suture anchors during rotator cuff repair surgery[1], thereby compromising the success of repair. Dual energy X-ray absorptiometry (DXA) is the most popular technique to measure the general bone mineral density (BMD), especially at the hip and lumbar spine. However, there is wide variation...

T-condylar fracture of distal humerus in young children is very rare. Pure physeal fractures of the olecranon are also rare. We report on an extremely rare case of concomitant ulecranon fracture, ipsilateral segmental humerus and intercondylar humerus fracture (type III) in a skeletally immature patient.

Osteoporotic fractures are now a social problem for incidence and costs. Fractures of the proximal humerus events are frequent and constantly increasing. It is estimated that they are 20% of all osteoporotic fractures. Bone densitometry in most cases underestimates the real humeral bone density. There is little information about osteoporotic changes in the proximal humerus and their association ...

background: an intra-articular distal humerus mal:union: can be disabling. to improve function, reduce pain and/ or prevent further secondary osteoarthritis an intra-articular corrective osteotomy can be considered. herein we present the indications, practical guidelines for pre- operative planning and surgical technique. subsequently, we provide long-term results in a small series.   methods: ...

[Purpose] The purpose of this study was to compare the potential effects of resistance exercise according to the positions of the arms and the rotation of the humerus on the subhumeral acromial space. [Subjects] The study subjects were 34 subjects without shoulder pain. [Methods] Ultrasonographic measurements of the acromiohumeral distance of the subjects were made at three shoulder positions: ...

Intra-articular osteotomy is considered in the rare case of malunion after a fracture of the distal humerus to restore humeral alignment and gain a functional arc of elbow motion. Traumatic and iatrogenic disruption of the limited blood flow to the distal end of the humerus resulting in avascular necrosis of capitellum or trochlea is a major pitfall of the this technically challenging procedure...

OBJECTIVE To compare the difference in diameter of the medullary cavity of the humerus in Arab and South Asian patients in Kuwait. SUBJECTS AND METHODS In 46 patients (29 Arab, 17 South Asian) treated at Al-Razi Hospital, Kuwait, for diaphyseal fracture of the humerus, the medullary cavity of the humerus on the radiographs of the uninjured (contralateral side) was examined. Bone density was a...

ABSTRACT Proximal humerus fracture is the second most common fracture of the upper extremity and presents several unique problems such as anatomical complexity, high risk of avascular necrosis, minimal bone stock for purchase, significant morbidity, and lack of a universally accepted treatment. Recent treatments for proximal humerus fractures include use of minimally invasive plate osteosynthys...

background: arterial damage is sometimes associated with supracondylar fractures of the humerus. diagnosis and careful management of the fracture and arterial repair is crucial. objectives: the aim of this study was to determine the prevalence and outcome of supracondylar fractures of the humerus with signs and symptoms of limb ischemia, before and after arterial decompression or arterial recon...

OBJECTIVE To determine the value of measuring fetal femur and humerus length at 11-14 weeks of gestation in screening for chromosomal defects. METHODS Femur and humerus lengths were measured using transabdominal ultrasound in 1018 fetuses immediately before chorionic villus sampling for karyotyping at 11-14 weeks of gestation. In the group of chromosomally normal fetuses, regression analysis ...
