Right eye lens aspiration was performed but was uneventful, and he prepared for left eye surgery after 7 days. Immediately after giving a peribulbar block, a complete akinesia, tight eyelids, and stony hard eyeball was noted. An abaxial pr...
PURPOSE Severe or recurrent lower eyelid ectropion can be challenging to correct. Studies on the role of upper midface ptosis in lower eyelid malposition have been published. The authors describe their technique of supporting the lateral cheek by lifting and reestablishing support for the orbitomalar ligament through a 10-mm canthotomy incision as an adjunct to a lateral tarsal strip procedure....
We report a unique case of a 12-year-old girl with unilateral proptosis form orbital extension of an extensive bilateral cephalhematoma. Loss of vision in the left eye due to severe proptosis was reversed by prompt aspiration and tarsorrhaphy.

Corneal hydration and protection can be achieved through increased lubrication or decreased evaporation. Hence, an important therapeutic strategy to corneal desiccation involves occlusion of the lacrimal drainage system in order to decrease tear outflow and provide additional ocular surface hydration. Three general approaches can be used: temporary, reversible, or permanent occlusion of the lac...
Introduction Patients with mitochondrial myopathies, of which chronic progressive external ophthalmoplegia (CPEO) is the most common, can present with ptosis and proximal limb weakness.1 Ptosis associated with CPEO can provide challenging management problems. This form of ptosis may have poor levator function. Additional features must be considered in determining the surgical treatment. For exa...
Existing data suggest that, at a minimum, 2% of paucibacillary patients and 5% of multibacillary patients have lagophthalmos; at least 290,000 people worldwide have leprosy-related lagophthalmos. Surgical intervention is the only method for correcting lagophthalmos; effectiveness of the different procedures commonly used has not been measured. Results from a survey of eye care providers reveale...
