1.2. Morphisms between locales. We introduced the above ideas using a map of simplicial sets f : X → Y , but in actuality the definitions of F∗ and F∗ work whenever F is a open morphism of locales, as we shall soon see. To get to that point, however, it is best to start all over, by taking X and Y to be arbitrary locales and considering an arbitrary adjunction f∗ : Y //X : f∗ oo as a morphism F...
This is a version from 29 Sept 2003 of the paper published under the same name in Theoretical Computer Science 316 (2004) 297–321. The double powerlocale P(X) (found by composing, in either order, the upper and lower powerlocale constructions PU and PL) is shown to be isomorphic in [Loc,Set] to the double exponential SS X where S is the Sierpiński locale. Further PU (X) and PL(X) are shown to b...
We introduce a category of basic combinatorial objects, encompassing PCAs and locales. Such a basic combinatorial object is to be thought of as a pre-realizability notion. To each such object we can associate an indexed preorder, generalizing the construction of triposes for various notions of realizability. There are two main results: first, the characterization of triposes which arise in this...
The localic definitions of cosheaves and connectedness are transferred from impredicative topos theory to predicative formal topology. A formal topology is locally connected (has base of connected opens) iff it has a cosheaf π0 together with certain additional structure and properties that constrain π0 to be the connected components cosheaf. In the inductively generated case, complete spreads (...
We consider locales B as algebras in the tensor category s` of sup-lattices. We show the equivalence between the Joyal-Tierney descent theorem for open localic surjections shB q −→ E in Galois theory and a Tannakian recognition theorem over s` for the s`-functor Rel(E) Rel(q ∗) −→ Rel(shB) ∼= (B-Mod)0 into the s`-category of discrete B-modules. Thus, a new Tannaka recognition theorem is obtaine...
We give a constructive characterization of morphisms between open sublocales of localic completions of locally compact metric (LCM) spaces, in terms of continuous functions. The category of open subspaces of LCM spaces is thereby shown to embed fully faithfully into the category of locales (or formal topologies). 2000 Mathematics Subject Classification 03F60, 18B30, 54E99 (primary)
