Luminescence properties of individual BN-coated CaS:Eu nanowires have been studied by high-spatial-resolution cathodoluminescence (CL) spectroscopy. A broad red light-emitting band from an individual nanowire has been observed. Detailed local CL studies on the nanowires reveal spatial variations of luminescence from the structure surfaces toward their cores. Such variations are attributed to th...

Fast (τ∼1.7 ns) broadband (full width at half-maximum = 1.1 eV) vacuum ultraviolet (VUV; hν = 8.4 eV) luminescence from MgF(2) crystals has been detected at low temperature (T<80 K) and analyzed with techniques of cathodoluminescence and time-resolved VUV spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation. The VUV emission discovered has been attributed to the luminescence of spin-singlet self-trapped ex...

The isolated-site low-temperature crystal matrix (dilute solutions in heptane and in octane) ( Shpol ' skii matrix) is shown to be operative for the spectroscopic study of 3- hydroxyflavone luminescence. The observed luminescence is demonstrated to be unique proton-transfer fluorescence from the excited tautomer. A separate study at higher concentrations of aggregated molecule luminescence and ...

The contamination of the Raman scattering signal with luminescence is a well-known problem when dealing with biological media excited by visible light. The viability of the shifted-excitation Raman difference spectroscopy (SERDS) technique for luminescence suppression on Raman spectra of biological samples was studied in this work. A tunable Lithrow-configuration diode laser (λ = 785 and 830 nm...

Highly luminescent and water-soluble cobalt(ii)-bis(8-hydroxyquinoline) (CoQ(2)) nanosheets have been successfully synthesized via a simple, rapid sonochemical method. The water-soluble CoQ(2) nanosheets were characterized by luminescence spectroscopy, UV-vis spectroscopy, FT-IR spectroscopy and transmission electron microscopy (TEM). The CoQ(2) nanosheets allow highly sensitive and selective d...

We study thorium-doped CaF2 crystals as a possible platform for optical spectroscopy of the (229)Th nuclear isomer transition. We anticipate two major sources of background signal that might cover the nuclear spectroscopy signal: VUV-photoluminescence, caused by the probe light, and radioluminescence, caused by the radioactive decay of (229)Th and its daughters. We find a rich photoluminescence...

A wideband near-IR (NIR) luminescence centered at 1080 nm was found in a RbPb(2)Cl(5):Bi single crystal grown by the Bridgman technique. Absorption, luminescence, and excitation of luminescence spectra were investigated at room and cryogenic temperatures. The luminescence was proposed to be due to the (3)P(1)-->(3)P(0) transition in Bi(+) ion.

Deep-etch-defined GaAs/Al0.3Ga0.7As square features of multiquantum well material, with dimensions as small as 160 nm, have been fabricated using magnetron reactive ion etching ~MIE!. Luminescence spectroscopy shows confinement of charge carriers to the features’ center. The effects of rf power and etching time on the luminescence efficiency of these features and its concomitant etch-induced da...

Amorphous GeOx/SiO2 multilayers (1<x<2) were prepared by successive evaporation of GeO2 and SiO2 powders onto the Si substrates maintained at 100°C. Structural study by X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy (XPS), Fourier transform infrared-absorption (FTIR) spectrometry, and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) was carried out. These techniques allowed us to follow the structural evolution, and...
