Lymphotropic strains of human immunodeficiency virus type 1 (HIV-1), including HTLV-IIIB, replicate poorly in macrophages. We have shown previously that lymphotropic HIV-1 fuses equally well with T lymphocytes and macrophages (M. J. Potash, M. Zeira, Z.-B. Huang, T. Pearce, E. Eden, H. Gendelman, and D. J. Volsky, Virology 188:864-868, 1992), suggesting that events in the virus life cycle follo...

recurrent spontaneous rupture of the urinary bladder has rarely been reported in english articles. this condition may be difficult to diagnosis before a laparotomy due to acute peritonitis. herein we describe a case of recurrent spontaneous rupture of the bladder in a 39-year-old woman with human t-lymphotropic virus type 1 (htlv-1) -associated myelopathy/topical spastic paraparesis (ham/tsp).

The isolation and characterization of a human T-cell lymphotropic retrovirus related to human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) from cerebrospinal fluid of a Jamaican patient with tropical spastic paraparesis is described. The virus isolate is a typical type C retrovirus as seen by electron microscopy and is related to prototype HTLV-I isolated from patients with adult T-cell leukemia b...

Serological inspection of Simian T-lymphotropic Virus Type 1 was conducted for a wild colony of Macaca fuscata, which was captured in the middle Honshu, Japan. The increase of positive rate after the juvenile stage with the positive rate reaching 100% (or 35/35) in youngster and adult stages, was observed. This finding suggests that, in contrast with human T-lymphotropic Virus Type 1, horizonta...

We have isolated and characterised two divergent simian T-lymphotropic viruses (STLV), not belonging to the established human and simian T-lymphotropic virus lineages HTLV-1/STLV-1 and HTLV-2. STLV-L, from an Eritrean sacred baboon (Papio hamadryas), has been typed as a third type of simian T-lymphotropic virus, distinct from HTLV-1/STLV-1 and HTLV-2. The other virus, isolated from Congolese bo...

The discovery of lymphoid B-Iymphotropic herpesvirus-producing cell lines from M. arctoides peripheral lymphocytes (MAL-l) producing their own lymphotropic virus HVMA was reported earlier [1]. Subsequently, two more M. arctoides virus-producing lymphoid cell lines (MAL-2, MAL-3) were discovered in our laboratory. The cells of some baboon lymphoid cultures, parallel with B-Iymphotropic herpesvir...
