A draft genome sequence of Pichia kudriavzevii M12 is presented here. The genome reveals the presence of genes encoding enzymes involved in xylose utilization and the pentose phosphate pathway for bioethanol production. Strain M12 is also a potential producer of phytases, enzymes useful in food processing and agriculture.
In a recent paper [1], Adem, Maginnis and Milgram calculated the mod 2 cohomology of the Mathieu simple group M12. An interesting feature of the answer they obtain is that it is Cohen–Macaulay. There is a subalgebra isomorphic to the rank three Dickson invariants, namely a polynomial ring in generators of degrees 4, 6 and 7, and over this subalgebra the whole cohomology ring is a finitely gener...
Synthetic dodecasill H, 34 Si02 . 3 M12 . 2 MI2 . 1 M20, with M12 and M12' = N2 and M20 =piperidine, is hexagonal with space group P6/mmm and a = 13.783(4) and e = 11.190(3) A. Structure refinement with 658 independent reflexions led to a weighted Rw = 0.056. The clathrate compound has a silica host framework and organic guest molecules M within three different types of cages. It is the simples...
A characterization of the Mathieu group M12 is established; the characterization is used by Aschbacher and Smith in their classification of the quasithin finite simple groups. This is one in a series of papers providing simplified, modern, computer free treatments of the existence and uniqueness of the sporadic groups, and of the normalizers of subgroups of prime order and Sylow subgroups in th...
Two Gram-negative, plant growth-promoting rhizobacteria (PGPRs), denominated as M12 and M14, were classified by 16S rDNA sequencing as Burkholderia graminis species. Both strains were shown to produce a variety of N-acyl-homoserine lactone (AHL) quorum sensing (QS) signalling molecules. The involvement of these molecules in plant growth promotion and the induction of protection against salt str...
We consider solitonic solutions of coupled scalar systems, whose Lagrangian has a potential term (quasi-supersymmetric potential) consisting of the square of derivative of a superpotential. The most important feature of such a theory is that among soliton masses there holds a Ritz-like combination rule (e.g. M12 + M23 = M13), instead of the inequality (M12 + M23 < M13) which is a stability rela...
A ternary [66, 10, 36]3-code admitting the Mathieu group M12 as a group of automorphisms has recently been constructed by N. Pace, see [2]. We give a construction of the Pace code in terms of M12 as well as a combinatorial description in terms of the small Witt design, the Steiner system S(5, 6, 12). We also present a proof that the Pace code does indeed have minimum distance 36.
The algebra Sym of symmetric functions is a proper subalgebra of QSym: for example, M11 and M12 +M21 are symmetric, but M12 is not. As an algebra, QSym is generated by those monomial symmetric functions corresponding to Lyndon words in the positive integers [11, 6]. The subalgebra of QSym ⊂ QSym generated by all Lyndon words other than M1 has the vector space basis consisting of all monomial sy...
Prostate epithelial cells grown embedded in laminin-rich extracellular matrix (lrECM) undergo morphologic changes that closely resemble their architecture in vivo. In this study, growth characteristics of three human prostate epithelial sublines derived from the same cellular lineage, but displaying different tumorigenic and metastatic properties in vivo, were assessed in three-dimensional lrEC...
How synaptic specificity is molecularly coded in target cells is a long-standing question in neuroscience. Whereas essential roles of several target-derived attractive cues have been shown, less is known about the role of repulsion by nontarget cells. We conducted single-cell microarray analysis of two neighboring muscles (M12 and M13) in Drosophila, which are innervated by distinct motor neuro...
