The partial absence of teeth germs is a hereditary or acquired congenital defect called hypodontia. The present report analyses and discusses hypodontia in permanent dentition on the basis of eleven clinical cases. In these, the hypodontia corresponded to mandibular central incisors, maxillary lateral incisors, maxillary canines, or maxillary and mandibular premolars and molars. All these cases...
Hopeless retained deciduous teeth without permanent successors pose a restorative challenge for clinicians as well as certain clinical problems for patients. Compromised aesthetics, shifting of adjacent teeth, altered occlusion, and supereruption of teeth are examples of problems that can arise when a permanent tooth is congenitally missing. Mattheeuws, et al1 reported that the mandibular secon...
This study used conventional digital radiography to estimate the rate of tooth wear (TW) of maxillary and mandibular central incisors based on a cross-sectional study design. The crown length of 1239 permanent maxillary and mandibular central incisors from 346 persons (age groups: 10, 25, 40, 55 and 70 years ± 3) were measured by three calibrated dentists. Study teeth were intact incisally, had...
This article reports a case who was treated with immediate replacement of periodontally compromised mandibular incisors using the extracted incisors as a natural tooth pontic. Following extraction and root resection of the mandibular incisors, radicular pulp was cleaned and filled with composite resin and then bonded to adjacent teeth with fiber reinforced composite resin. This is a simple, eco...
Understanding of tooth eruption in humans remains incomplete. We hypothesized that genetic factors contribute significantly to phenotypic variation in emergence of primary incisors. Modelfitting was applied to data from Australian twins to quantify contributions of genetic and environmental factors to variation in timing of emergence of human primary incisors. There were no significant differen...
Agenesis of permanent canines is a rare condition and that of both maxillary and mandibular permanent canines is extremely rare. Reports of such cases are very scarce in the literature. It may occur either isolated or in association with other dental anomalies. This paper reports an unusual case of agenesis of both the maxillary permanent canines and mandibular right permanent canine occurring ...
OBJECTIVE To evaluate the treatment effects and stability of Forsus appliance therapy. METHODS Thirty-one patients (15 males, 16 females) with a mean age of 15.8 +/- 3.1 years (range 13 to 17.6 years, 15.3 +/- 1.2 years for females and 16.5 +/- 1.6 years for males) were selected. All patients had passed beyond their pubertal growth phase (after CS4 or MP3cap). Lateral cephalograms and threedi...
AIM The purpose of this study was to evaluate the dentoskeletal and soft tissue effects resulting from treatment with Klammt's elastic open activator (EOA) functional orthopedic appliance in patients with Class II malocclusion characterized by mandibular deficiency. MATERIALS AND METHODS Teleradiographs were evaluated in the lateral aspect of the initial (T1) and final (T2) orthopedic phases ...
This case report describes the root canal treatment of 3 mandibular incisors, each with 2 separate canals and foramina, in 1 patient. The case demonstrates an unusual morphological configuration of the root canal system and supplements previous reports of the existence of such configurations in mandibular incisors.
Hypodontia is the congenital absence of less than six teeth because of agenesis. The absence of teeth may be unilateral or bilateral. Congenital absence of mandibular central incisors is not well documented in the literature. The aim of the present paper is to report, a case of congenital missing permanent mandibular central incisors and its clinical implications.
