Metamaterials and photonic/phononic crystals have been successfully developed in recent years to achieve advanced wave manipulation control, both electromagnetism mechanics. However, the underlying concepts are yet be fully applied field of fluid dynamics water waves. Here, we present an example interaction surface gravity waves with a mechanical metamaterial, i.e. periodic underwater oscillati...

Crawling waves are generated by an interference of two oscillating waves traveling in opposite directions, with a progressive movement resulting from a frequency difference or a phase difference between the sources. While the idea has been applied to numerous applications, all the previous reports used mechanical sources to vibrate the medium. It is shown, through experiments and simulation, th...

MRE is a magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)-based technology for non-invasively characterizing the biomechanical properties of tissues and may serve as a potential surrogate to invasive liver biopsies for diagnosing and staging liver fibrosis. MRE can be used to quantitatively image the direct consequence of liver fibrosisincreased stiffness of the hepatic tissue. MRE is performed following three...

Due to economic social cohesion, the European Union is promoting to improve the production of electrical energy from renewable energy sources. Sea waves have associated a form of renewable energy which can be captured by using a hydro mechanical device that in turn drives an electrical generator to produce electrical energy. After a brief description of wave formation and quantifying the power ...

In the small intestines, the major task of the slow wave is to induce mechanical movements in the intestinal wall by generating local calcium spikes. High resolution electrical mapping reveals fundamental differences in propagation between slow waves and calcium spikes. These differences suggest that slow waves and spikes are propagated by different mechanisms through different cell networks.
