Nanopore containing graphene nanosheets were synthesized by graphene oxide and a reducing agent using a facile hydrothermal treatment in sodium hydroxide media. The as-prepared nanoporous graphene was incorporated into ethyl cellulose (EC) to prepare the mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) for C3H6/C3H8 separation. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) photograph and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy...

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) in their free powder form have exhibited superior capacities for many gases when compared to other materials, due to their tailorable functionality and high surface areas. Specifically, the MOF HKUST-1 binds small Lewis bases, such as ammonia, with its coordinatively unsaturated copper sites. We describe here the use of HKUST-1 in mixed-matrix membranes (MMMs) pr...

INTRODUCTION This research was conducted to adapt the Monitoring My Multiple Sclerosis (MMMS) scale, which is a scale used for self-evaluation by multiple sclerosis (MS) patients of their own health and quality of life, to Turkish and to determine the psychometric properties of the scale. METHODS The methodological research was conducted in the outpatient MS clinic of a university hospital be...

To construct rapid C3H8 transport pathways in polymer matrix, alkyl chain-functionalized graphene oxide (GO) was prepared via grafting octadecylamine (ODA) molecules and then embedded into polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) matrix to obtain high-efficiency mixed matrix membranes (MMMs). The incorporation of alkyl chains contributes to lowering the surface energy of GO nanosheets and providing higher a...

There is an old saying that you must walk a mile in someone's shoes to truly understand them. This mini-review will synthesize and discuss recent research that attempts to make humans "walk a mile" in an artificial musculoskeletal system to gain insight into the principles governing human movement control. In this approach, electromyography (EMG) is used to sample human motor commands; these co...

A new method is developed to enhance the gas separation properties of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) by interior modification of an inorganic nano-porous particle. Ship-in-a-bottle (SIB), as a novel synthesis strategy, is considered to encapsulate a polyaza macrocyclic Ag-ligand complex into the zeolite Y, which is resulted in a new host-guest nano-composite. It is consequently incorporated into...

The use of mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) to facilitate the production biofuels has attracted significant research interest in field renewable energy. In this study, pervaporation separation butanol from aqueous solutions was studied using a series MMMs, including zeolitic imidazolate frameworks (ZIF-8)-polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and zinc oxide-PDMS membranes. Although several studies have repo...

Hemodialysis is a widely available and well-established treatment for patients with End Stage Renal Disease (ESRD). However, although life-sustaining, patient mortality rates are very high. Several recent studies corroborated the link between dialysis patients' outcomes and elevated levels of protein-bound uremic toxins (PBUT) that are poorly removed by conventional hemodialysis. Therefore, new...

Scarring is a long-lasting problem in higher animals, and reductionist approaches could aid in developing treatments. Here, we show that copolymerization of collagen I with polyacrylamide produces minimal matrix models of scars (MMMS), in which fractal-fibre bundles segregate heterogeneously to the hydrogel subsurface. Matrix stiffens locally-as in scars-while allowing separate control over adh...

Simultaneous improvement in CO2 permeability and CO2/N2 selectivity was obtained from mixed matrix membranes (MMMs) containing dual-functionalized mesoporous TiO2 hollow nanospheres (f-MTHS). Dual functionality resulted in the increased CO2 affinity and improved interfacial properties between inorganic nanofillers and the polymer matrix.
