BACKGROUND The Australian Institute of Health and Welfare's first report into acute kidney injury demonstrated a significant increase in the incidence of acute-tubulo interstitial nephritis, the ICD-10 code representing both acute interstitial nephritis and pyelonephritis, in women aged less than 55 years. METHODS We conducted a population-based study involving Ontario residents aged 66 years and older who initiated PPI therapy between Ap...

A 46-year-old female patient presenting with acute interstitial nephritis and anterior uveitis was admitted. The renal biopsy disclosed the presence of interstitial nephritis, confirming the clinical diagnosis of tubulointerstitial nephritis and uveitis (TINU) syndrome. Treatment with oral steroids was started, with prompt improvement of symptoms and laboratory abnormalities.

The Tubulointerstitial Nephritis and Uveitis syndrome is a very rare condition, probably under-diagnosed in clinical practice. It is characterized by the combination of an interstitial nephritis and uveitis, and is an exclusion diagnosis. Tissue non caseating granuloma can be rarely present, with only 6 cases reported on bone marrow. We present a case of a 55 year old female with a 3-month hist...

The presence of white spots in the kidneys of cattle at slaughter (so-called white-spotted kidneys) can be an indication of infection with Leptospira, a spirochaete of public health concern because it causes zoonotic disease. In this study, 24 kidneys of 180 slaughtered cows (13.3%) showed focal to multifocal white spots at inspection. These kidneys, together with matching urine (n = 18) an...
