In this study, the complex behavior of steel encased reinforced concrete (SRC) composite beam–columns in biaxial bending is predicted by multilayer perceptron neural network. For this purpose, the previously proposed nonlinear analysis model, mixed beam-column formulation, is verified with biaxial bending test results. Then a large set of benchmark frames is provided and P-Mx-My triaxial ...

We are developing a 95 GHz, 200 W, wideband vacuum electronic amplifier based on a 20 kV, 120 mA electron beam. The serpentine circuit is fabricated by multilayer UV-LIGA using an embedded polymer monofilament, which produces an all-copper monolithic structure with beam tunnel. We also discuss extension of the technique to upper millimeter-wave circuits at 670 GHz.

We describe a novel soft-lithographic technique possessing broad utility for the fabrication of large area, nanoscale ( approximately 100 nm) multilayer resist structures on electronic material substrates. This additive patterning method transfers ultrathin poly(dimethylsiloxane) (PDMS) decals to an underlying SiO(2)-capped organic planarazation layer. The PDMS patterns serve as a latent image ...

We have developed a wedge-loaded double-cantilever beam adhesion measurement set-up for thin films deposited on glass by sputtering. The test is described in details. Results on the Glass/sublayer/Ag/ZnO multilayer provide evidence that SnO2 or TiO2 perform better than ZnO as a sublayer. Then however, rupture within the multilayer shifts to the upper Ag/ZnO interface. The latter is shown to be ...

Incident primary beam divergence is a source of systematic error in X-ray standing wave (XSW) characterization of single and multilayer thin films. Primary beam divergence significantly alters the XSW profile of a layered material and can lead to large errors when used with higher excitation energies. The present study suggests that when one uses Mo-Kalpha excitation, the primary beam divergenc...

Amplitude-division beam splitters for XUV radiation sources have been developed and extensively characterized. Mo/Si multilayer coatings were deposited on 50 nm-thick SiN membranes. By changing the multilayer structure (periodicity, number of bilayers, etc.) the intensity of the reflected and transmitted beams were optimized for selected incident radiation parameters (wavelength, incident angle...

Instrumentation To overcome current difficulty of absolute period control in the EUV multilayer fabrication by sputtering, we have developed an automatic null ellipsometer as a sputtering rate monitor having high enough picometer thickness sensitivity enabling accurate monitoring of the nm period multilayer fabrication [1]. Figure 1 shows schematic drawing of the ellipsometer installed as the s...

We report on novel ferromagnetic Mn/Ge multilayers for spintronics applications investigated both experimentally and theoretically. Two Mn/Ge multilayers are grown on GaAs (001) substrates by molecular beam epitaxy. The period of each multilayer consists of an Mn layer of varying thickness (0.6 and 5 Å) and a 10 Å thick Ge spacer layer. From temperaturedependent magnetization and hysteresis loo...

To bridge the gap between traditional multilayer and crystal optics a high-resolution multilayer monochromator with a bandwidth of 0.22% has been designed and installed on a bending-magnet beamline (F3) at the Cornell High Energy Synchrotron Source (CHESS) to provide an unfocused monochromatic X-ray beam for protein crystallography experiments. Crystallographic data of excellent quality from a ...

The status of the polarized electron source development program at SLAC will be reviewed. Emission currents of 60 A, corresponding to a space charge limited current density of 180 A/cm2. have been obtained from GaAs photocathodes. Electron beam polarization 20% greater than that obtainable from GaAs cathodes has been observed from multilayer &As-GaAlAs structures. Work in progress to produce hi...
