The maize Adh1 gene is introduced, with citations. The use of this gene as a mutagen monitor is discussed, with emphasis on differentiating quantitative and qualitative parameters. A proper assessment of hazard from environmental pollutants requires data on possible mutagen specificities for different kinds of DNA.

Variability in DNA repair capability may be a determinant of interindividual difference in susceptibility to carcinogenic exposures. A cytogenetic assay which quantifies chromosomal breakage induced by in vitro exposure to a clastogen provides an indirect measure of repair. We report the results of a casecontrol study of upper aerodigestive trad cancers assessing differences in mutagen sensitiv...

Aim. To study the frequency and spectrum of cytogenetic disorders in Triticum aestivum L., induced by effect moderate high concentrations N-nitroso-N-methylurea. Methods. The seeds winter wheat cultivars Albatros odeskyi Zymoiarka were treated with water solution N-nitroso-N-methylurea such as 0.005 %, 0.01 0.025 %. A analysis cells a root meristem was made help an anatelophase method. Results....

The present study aims at evaluating the risk of Mutagen X (MX) (3-chloro-4-(dichloromethyl)-5-hydroxy-2 (5H)-furanone) and adverse health effects, associated with direct ingestion of chlorinated drinking water in west of Tehran, supplied by chlorinated drinking water from surface and underground water sources. For one year, MX concentrations in tap water samples has been measured for consumers...

Although the risk factors contributing to the etiology of brain tumors remain largely unknown, this pilot study suggests that genetically deter mined sensitivity to environmental carcinogens may play a role in the pathogenesis of these tumors. In this study, we examined short-term lymphocyte cultures from 45 adult malignant glioma patients and 117 age-, sex-, and ethnicity-matched healthy contr...
