Torque measurements were carried out on Ni-Ag multilayers in the temperature range 6 to 300 K. From the analysis of the torque curves both magnetization (M) and anisotropy (K, ) were obtained. The K, values thus obtained for t ~ j > 4 nm are in good agreement with FMR data. For t ~ i < 3 nm, a small in-plane anisotropy of the order of 1 x lo6 erg.cm-3 is obtained at 6 K. We had recently reporte...

Ni/Co multilayers grown by molecular beam epitaxy are found to exhibit a magnetoresistance AR/R at liquid helium temperature as large as 8.2%, with saturation fields AH-22 Oe and a sensitivity (AR/R)/(2AH)=O. 19% Oe-‘. The highest room temperature sensitivity obtained to date in this system is 0.18% Oe-’ and at 4.2 K is 0.29% Oe-‘. This demonstrates that high values of the sensitivity can be ac...

Vapor deposited multilayers consisting of alternating ferromagnetic and nonferrous metals are being used for magnetic sensing and data storage devices. Their performance is dependent upon interface morphology which is a sensitive function of deposition condition such as the deposition rate, deposition temperature, and flux angle of incidence. A two-dimensional kinetic Monte Carlo method has bee...

The properties of giant magnetoresistance multilayers are a sensitive function of the vapor deposition process used for their synthesis. The highest magnetoresistance occurs when deposition results in interfaces that are flat and chemically separated. Molecular dynamics simulations have been used to explore the potential benefits of low energy xenon ion assistance during the physical vapor depo...

We have studied the diffusion in Ce/Ni multilayers with different periods (65 A, 195 A, 325 A). We have observed that the find state of the diffusion process could vary as a function of the period, giving respectively a homogeneous amorphous alloy, a homogeneous crystalline compound and mixed phases.

Annealing of crystalline multilayers composed two miscible elements usually causes interfacial mixing the constituent atoms, possibly leading to formation binary alloys at interfaces. Magnetron sputtered c-Ni/a-Zr deposited room temperature were vacuum annealed isochronally 200 °C and 400 observe thermal stability interfaces constituting crystalline/amorphous multilayers. Control over behaviour...

Within a spin-polarized LMTO approach in the Atomic-Sphere approximation we calculate ab initio the magnetic properties of various binary and ternary multilayers composed of Fe, Co, Ni, Cr, V and Cu. The emphasis lies on the indirect exchange interaction of the magnetic sandwiches across the antiferromagnetic or non-magnetic spacers, and on the profiles of the intrinsic resp. induced magnetic m...
