This paper examines a model of multi-jurisdiction formation where individuals’ characteristics are uniformly distributed over a finite interval. Every jurisdiction locates a public facility and distributes its cost equally among the residents. We consider two notions of stability: Nash stability and its refinement local Nash stability, and examine the existence and characterization of stable pa...

This paper deals with the determination of the conditions for which the hysteretic Bouc-Wen model is consistent with the physical phenomenon it is supposed to represent. In particular, we derive the conditions on the model parameters under which the model is stable, asymptotically dissipative and verifies the hysteretic property. These conditions are in the form of algebraic inequalities to be ...

We present necessary and sufficient conditions for the termination of linear homogeneous programs. We also develop a complete method to check termination for this class of programs. Our complete characterization of termination for such programs is based on linear algebraic methods. We reduce the verification of the termination problem to checking the orthogonality of a well determined vector sp...

For symmetric indeenite tridiagonal matrices, block LDL T factorization without interchanges is shown to have excellent numerical stability when a pivoting strategy of Bunch is used to choose the dimension (1 or 2) of the pivots.

An interaction form is an abstract model of interaction based on a description of power distribution among agents over alternatives. A solution known as the settlement set is defined at any preference profile. Necessary and sufficient conditions for stability, that is the existence of settlements, are established. A Stability Index that plays a role similar to that of the Nakamura Number is def...

The use of auxiliary functions in nonparametric inference for theM/G/∞ queueinging model is considered. Estimation of the service time distribution G is challenging when only limited information about the busy/idle cycle is available. It is shown, using diagnostic plots of estimators, that a standard auxiliary function aimed at providing numerical stability fails in that regard but that a relia...

We briefly sketch the methods for a numerically stable evaluation of tensor one-loop integrals that have been used in the calculation of the complete electroweak one-loop corrections to e + e − → 4 fermions. In particular, the improvement of the new methods over the conventional Passarino–Veltman reduction is illustrated for some 4-point integrals in the delicate limits of small Gram (and other...

We present a direct algorithm for computing an orthogonal similarity transformation which interchanges neighboring diagonal blocks in a matrix in real Schur form. The algorithm does not require the solution of the associated Sylvester equation. Numerical tests suggest the backward stability of the scheme.
