BACKGROUND Imaging for pre-operative localisation of parathyroid glands in primary hyperparathyroidism is now routine. This has led to the detection of incidental lesions (incidentalomas) in other organs, the nature of which is not well characterised. The aim of this study was to determine the incidence, characteristics and outcomes in patients who had incidental findings on parathyroid imaging...

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE The hypervascular nature of parathyroid adenomas can be explored by proper dynamic imaging to narrow the target lesions for surgical exploration. The purpose of this study was to establish MR perfusion characteristics of parathyroid adenomas to differentiate them from their mimics, such as subjacent thyroid tissue and cervical lymph nodes. MATERIALS AND METHODS Preopera...

Ectopic parathyroid adenomas can be encountered during four gland explorations, but nearly 80% of adenomas are localized with ultrasound and sestamibi imaging. Ectopic adenomas are thought to arise from abnormal migration during development. As a cervical congenital anomaly, common carotid artery agenesis is an extremely rare anomaly characterized by separate origins of the internal and externa...

conclusions io-pth levels should become normal or to drop by at least 80% during successful parathyroidectomy. persistent elevations of io-pth after resection of an abnormal gland dictate the need for bilateral exploration. background we hypothesized that io-pth levels would decline to normal or near normal after successful parathyroidectomy. objectives evaluate efficacy and predictive factor o...

Abstract: Primary hyperparathyroidism (PHPT) usually presents with one of the classical symptoms hypercalcemia - painful bones, psychic moans, abdominal groans or renal stones. It is well known that many a times PHPT can be asymptomatic. Asymptomatic parathyroid disease identified on screening, when calcium found elevated bone density to unusually low. Impacted fish being reason for neck imagin...

INTRODUCTION To describe the use of combined preoperative imaging and intraoperative parathyroid hormone as a novel approach in the surgical management of a patient with tertiary hyperparathyroidism associated with X-linked hypophosphatemic rickets. CASE PRESENTATION We present the first documented description of combined preoperative imaging and intraoperative parathyroid hormone as well as ...

We present a case of an ectopic mediastinal parathyroid adenoma in a 58-year-old male patient. We show how different imaging modalities were successfully used to reach a diagnosis. We particularly focus on the role of four-dimensional CT scan in preoperative localization of ectopic adenomas and discuss how diverse imaging modalities can be integrated in the workup of ectopic parathyroid adenomas.
