Bilateral psoas abscesses extending to the gluteal muscle and intrapelvic area are uncommon. We present our experience with computed tomography (CT)-guided percutaneous catheter drainage for the treatment of multiple aggressive abscesses in a diabetic patient. The abscesses completely resolved after the procedures. Psoas abscess should be considered in the differential diagnosis of older diabet...
The conventional management of pancreatoenteric fistulas and pancreatic abscess with aggressive surgery or percutaneous drainage catheter placement are associated with increased surgery-related morbidity and mortality, and a longer hospitalization. We report here a case of successful closing pancreatoduodenal fistula, which remained open after the percutaneous catheter drainage of pancreatic ab...
The treatment of spleen abscess consists ofappropriate systemic antibiotic and removal of pus by percutaneous catheter, splenotomy or splenectomy.3'5 E. corrodens is usually susceptible to a broad-spectrum antibiotic such as ampicillin, cephalosporins, fluoroquinolones and thienamycins.''4 Finally, we choose radiographically guided percutaneous drainage for two reasons: the peripheral location ...
BACKGROUND Percutaneous drainage or surgery is required when amebic liver abscess (ALA) fails to respond to medical management. In some of these patients, non-response may be due to communication of ALA with the biliary tree. This report describes our experience with the use of endoscopic biliary draining in such patients. METHODS Medical records of patients with ALA undergoing either needle ...
A case of a 79-year-old man, status post laparoscopic cholecystectomy with a drainage catheter placed at the gallbladder fossa is presented. The case was complicated postoperatively by abdominal pain and bilious discharge from the drainage catheter. Endoscopic retrograde cholangio-pancreatography demonstrated leakage through the cystic duct stump into the gallbladder fossa. Placement of a cover...
Introduction Liver abscess is common in pediatric population in India. Children have unique set of predisposing factors and clinical features. Liver abscesses are infectious, space-occupying lesions in the liver; the two most common abscesses being pyogenic and amebic. Its severity depends on the source of the infection and the underlying condition of the patient. Materials and methods A tota...
Biliopleural fistula (BF) and formation of biliopleural effusion is a rare complication following percutaneous transhepatic biliary drainage (PTBD). It occurs when the pleura is traversed by the catheter before entering the bile duct. Biliopleural fistula should be suspected when right side pleural effusion develops following the PTBD procedure. The diagnosis of biliopleural fistula is made whe...
PURPOSE : To evaluate the utility and safety of drainage catheter installation for psoas/iliopsoas muscle abscesses using a one-step technique under the guidance of real-time computed tomography (CT) fluoroscopy. MATERIALS and METHODS : Ten psoas or iliopsoas muscle abscesses in 7 patients that were treated with percutaneous drainage were included in this study. All drainage procedures were car...
The case of a large amebic liver abscess with an atypical presentation is reported. High output bile drainage persisted after ultrasound guided percutaneous catheter drainage because of a preexisting communication of the abscess with the right hepatic ductal system. The abscess was managed successfully by surgical evacuation and internal drainage into a defunctioned jejunal loop.
