Spontaneous perirenal hemorrhage (SPH) is uncommon but can be a life-threatening condition which is associated with flank or abdominal pain and hypovolemia. The etiologies of SPH include tumor, vascular disease, and infection. Among the vascular diseases, polyarteritis nodosa (PAN) is common cause of the SPH. However, patients with PAN usually complain of nonspecific symptoms and the incidence ...
Extramedullary hematopoiesis (EMH) is hematopoiesis in organs outside the bone marrow and most frequently occurs in the liver, spleen, and lymph nodes. We report a case of perirenal EMH revealed by kidney biopsy in a patient with primary myelofibrosis. We observed only bilateral kidney enlargement with plain computed tomography (CT) and ultrasonography before obtaining a renal biopsy. We obtain...
We have developed a new noninvasive method of estimating abdominal fat volume in live rats using ultrasonography. By this method, cross sections of perirenal (retroperitoneal) fat tissue, which is an abdominal fat, at the renal vein level could be identified and the area determined. The perirenal fat in Wistar rats (wide body weight range, 111.4 to 497.3 g; limited range, 300.1 to 337.9 g) meas...
As a sexual dimorphism appears in plasma leptin levels, the aim of the present study was to investigate, in vivo and in vitro, the influence of sex steroid hormones on ob messenger RNA (mRNA) and leptin expressions in rat fat cells from various anatomical localizations. In male rats, castration resulted in a modulation of ob gene mRNA expression which was increased by 2-fold in perirenal and ha...
This study investigated the ameliorative effect of gallic acid (GA) on hypertriglyceridemia and fat accumulation in perirenal adipose tissues of high-fructose diet (HFD)-induced diabetic rats. The previous results showed that orally administered GA (30 mg/kg body weight) for four weeks significantly reduced the levels of plasma glucose and triglyceride (TG) in HFD rats. GA also markedly decreas...
BACKGROUND/AIMS The aim of this study was to examine the recent clinical trends and antibiotic susceptibilities of the causative microorganisms in renal and perirenal abscesses, and to elucidate the factors associated with treatment strategies. METHODS We retrospectively analyzed 56 patients who were diagnosed with renal and perirenal abscesses at our hospital from January 2000 to September 2...
Hemorrhagic fever with renal syndrome (HFRS) is an acute viral disease characterized by fever, hemorrhage and renal failure. Among the various hemorrhagic complications of HFRS, spontaneous rupture of the kidney and perirenal hematoma are very rare findings. We report here on a case of HFRS complicated by massive perirenal hematoma, and this was treated with transcatheter arterial embolization.
