The mechanism by which bi-and trivalent cations affect human liver phosphatidatephosphohydrolase (PAP) activity was investigated. Bivalent cations up to 1 mM increased PAP activity whereas at higher concentrations the activity of the enzyme decreased. The stimulatory concentration for trivalent cations such as Al3+ and Cr3+, however, was much lower being 2 m M and 1 m M, respectively. All catio...

Superstructure orthorhombicII (OII) phase in polycrystalline samples of YBCOx was observed by using synchrotron in-situ high resolution powder diffraction (HRPD) techniques at 300˚C. Rietveld method (RM) refinement was employed to analyse the collected diffraction data under proper oxygen partial pressure atmospheres. Our study indicates that by oxygen uptake, the samples undergo structural pha...

in this paper we investigate the effect of a random transverse field, distributed according to a trimodal distribution, on the phase diagram and magnetic properties of a two-dimensional lattice (square with z=4),  ferromagnetic ising system consisting of magnetic atoms with spin-1. this study is done using the effectivefield theory (eft) with correlations method. the equations are derived using...

spherical granules of the superionic conductor β/β́ lizr2(po4)3 in the range of sub 100 nm sizewere synthesizedvia freeze drying methodand fully reviewed in all aspects. samples were characterized by the x-ray diffractometry (xrd), the thermal analysis (tg, dsc), thefourier transform infra-red spectroscopy (ftir) and the scanning electron microscopy (sem).their structuredepends largely on the me...

We study the unitary matrix model with a topological term. We call the topological term the theta term. In the symmetric model there is the phase transition at λc = 2. If the Wilson term is larger than the theta term, there is the phase transition at the same λc. On the other hand, if the theta term is larger than the Wilson term, there is no phase transition.

We analyze the statistical properties of the entanglement of a large bipartite quantum system. By framing the problem in terms of random matrices and a fictitious temperature, we unveil the existence of two phase transitions, characterized by different spectra of the reduced density matrices.

We introduce a simple model of SO(N) spins with two-site interactions which is amenable to quantum Monte Carlo studies without a sign problem on nonbipartite lattices. We present numerical results for this model on the two-dimensional triangular lattice where we find evidence for a spin nematic at small N, a valence-bond solid at large N, and a quantum spin liquid at intermediate N. By the intr...

Models of the convergence of opinion in social systems have been the subject of considerable recent attention in the physics literature. These models divide into two classes, those in which individuals form their beliefs based on the opinions of their neighbors in a social network of personal acquaintances, and those in which, conversely, network connections form between individuals of similar ...

Finite-size scaling expressions for the current near the continuous phase transition and for the local density near the first-order transition are found in the steady state of the one-dimensional fully asymmetric simple-exclusion process with open boundaries and discrete-time dynamics. The corresponding finite-size scaling variables are identified as the ratio of the chain length to the localiz...

The finite-size scaling (FSS) theory for continuous phase transitions has been useful in determining the critical behavior from the size-dependent behaviors of thermodynamic quantities. When the phase transition is discontinuous, however, FSS approach has not been well established yet. Here, we develop a FSS theory for the explosive percolation transition arising in the Erdős and Rényi model un...
