Teeth disengagement or back-side teeth engagement induced by backlash reduces the transmission quality and dynamic performance of gear systems, accurate interpretation multi-state meshing behavior can provide guidance for structural optimization evaluation. Therefore, system is elaborated. A new nonlinear model a spur with five-state established based on time-varying contact ratio. The stiffnes...

Traditional portrait artists use a specific but open human vision methodology to create a painterly portrait of a live or photographed sitter. Portrait artists attempt to simplify, compose and leave out what’s irrelevant, emphasizing what’s important. While seemingly a qualitative pursuit, artists use known but open techniques such as relying on source tone over colour to indirect into a colour...

Britain's National Portrait Gallery, which has recently acquired a striking new wing, has this autumn also obtained a very new kind of portrait. Artist Marc Quinn has created a 'genomic portrait' of Sir John Sulston, former director of the Wellcome Trust's Sanger Centre near Cambridge, who led the UK arm of the human genome project which announced completion of the first draft last year. As the...

Relighting a portrait in a single image is still a challenging problem, particularly when only a single artistic reference photograph or painting is provided. In this paper, we propose an artistic illumination transfer system for portraits based on a database of portrait images (photographs and paintings) associated with hand-drawn illumination templates (276) by artists. Users can select a ref...

Construction of the action potential duration (APD) restitution portrait allows visualization of multiple aspects of the dynamics of periodically paced myocytes at various basic cycle lengths (BCLs). For the first time, we obtained the restitution portrait of isolated rabbit and guinea pig cardiac ventricular myocytes and analyzed the time constant, tau, of APD accommodation and the slopes of d...

In this paper, we present an example-based approach for automatically generating a life-like portrait from a frontal face image. Based on an inhomogeneous Markov Random Field Model, an inhomogeneous non-parametric sampling scheme is used to capture the complex statistical characteristics of face image and corresponding portrait. In our approach, only those pixels corresponding to a portrait poi...

We prove that every reversible Markov semigroup which satisfies a Poincaré inequality matrix-valued for Hermitian d×d matrix valued functions, with the same constant. This generalizes recent results [ABY19, Kat20] establishing such inequalities specific semigroups and consequently yields new concentration inequalities. The short proof follows from spectral theory of generators.

in this paper, stability analysis of walking gaits and robustness analysis are developed for a five-link and four-actuator biped robot. stability conditions are derived by studying unactuated dynamics and using the poincarã© map associated with periodic walking gaits. a stable gait is designed by an optimization process satisfying physical constraints and stability conditions. also, considering...

One of the most famous drawings by Leonardo da Vinci is a self-portrait in red chalk, where he looks quite old. In fact, there is a sketch in one of his notebooks, partially covered by written notes, that can be a self-portrait of the artist when he was young. The use of image processing, to remove the handwritten text and improve the image, allows a comparison of the two portraits. A special e...

In one of his paintings, the School of Athens, Raphael is depicting Leonardo da Vinci as the philosopher Plato. Some image processing tools can help us in comparing this portrait with two Leonardo's portraits, considered as self-portraits. The "Scuola di Atene" is one of the most famous paintings by Raphael, the Italian Renaissance artist. Painted between 1510 and 1511, this fresco decorates th...
