OBJECTIVE The purpose of this study was to investigate endotracheal tube cuff pressure (Pcuff) alteration in patients under mechanical ventilation after changes in position. METHODS All selected patients were initially placed in the 35 degrees semi-Fowler position, with Pcuff adjusted to 20 mmHg, and randomly divided into two groups. Group A, in which patients were moved to the lateral decubi...

conclusions compared to supine position, semi-fowler’s position is more effective in relieving chemotherapy-induced nausea and vomiting. results the severity, duration, and frequency of nausea and the severity and frequency of vomiting episodes in the control group differed significantly across the nine measurement time-points (p < 0.001). in the experimental group, the severity (p = 0.254) and...

This paper discusses two techniques investigated for use in a capacitance-based position sensor for the Eöt-Wash LISA noise measurement. The advantages and disadvantages of both techniques are reviewed and some elementary mathematical analysis is presented. A prototype implementation based on the more successful of the two techniques has been constructed.

This paper compares position measurement techniques using dead reckoning. We are seeking to find a technique which is suitable for use by pedestrians, and have compared a number of sensors that can be used to achieve a robust and accurate dead reckoning system. All our techniques are step based. To measure steps we have compared the use of pedometers and accelerometers. To determine heading we ...

This paper describes the development of several methods for the dynamic measurement of error distribution for positioning systems. When a user moves along a path at an unknown speed, it is no longer feasible to calculate the distance between the measured and real positions. We outline three applications using different positioning systems and apply our methods to the evaluation of the performan...
