a r t i c l e i n f o Solution-based chalcogenide glass films, traditionally deposited by spin-coating, are attractive for their potential use in chip-based devices operating in the mid-infrared and for ease of nanostructure incorporation. To overcome limitations of spin-coating such as excessive material waste and difficulty for scale-up, this paper introduces electrospray as a film deposition...
The present study aims to investigate the analysis of stress, strain, displacement, and electrical potential of a thick hollow cylinder made of FGPM under mechanical and thermal loads. Distribution of mechanical property of material is considered along the shell stick through the power distribution function. Thermal loads have been taken to signify the difference of temperature between outer an...
Pd capped pure Mg thin film (50 nm thick) was prepared by magnetron sputtering and its hydrogenation at room temperature has been investigated. After exposure to 4% hydrogen gas diluted by argon, the Pd/Mg thin films show drastic optical changes from the metallic state to the transparent state within five seconds by hydrogenation. Transmission electron microscope observation reveals that this s...
We have measured the vibrational Raman spectrum of a 1.2-microm-thick polystyrene film by using this film as an optical waveguide in a waveguide-stimulated Raman gain experiment. A gain factor of 1.3% was measured for the strong benzene mode at 1002 cm(-1). This value is in reasonable agreement with theoretical predictions.
We investigate the optical and thermo-optical properties of amorphous TiO2–Al2O3 thin-film bilayers fabricated by atomic layer deposition (ALD). Seven samples of TiO2–Al2O3 bilayers are fabricated by growing Al2O3 films of different thicknesses on the surface of TiO2 films of constant thickness (100 nm). Temperature-induced changes in the optical refractive indices of these thin-film bilayers a...
Our theoretical modelings and experimental observations illustrate that the equilibrium-state luminescence of electron-trapping materials (ETMs) can be controlled to produce either excitatory or inhibitory responses to the same optical stimulus. Because of this property, ETMs have a unique potential in optical realization of neurobiologically based parallel computations. As a classic example, w...

This paper presents a unique optical technique that utilizes the reabsorption and emission of two fluorescent dyes to accurately measure film thickness while minimizing errors caused by variations in illumination intensity and surface reflectivity. Combinations of dyes are selected that exhibit a high degree of emission reabsorption and each dye concentration is adjusted to create an optically ...
Quantum confined silicon, in the form of silicon quantum dots of diameters 5 nm or less, has the property of bandgap control and light emission. This bandgap engineering gives silicon quantum dots applications in novel photovoltaic devices, while maintaining compatibility with existing silicon technologies. These dots can help reduce lattice thermalisation losses in a single-junction solar cell...
