The subunit protein of microtubules, tubulin, has been demonstrated to be present in isolated nerve endings by gel electrophoresis, amino acid composition, and peptide mapping. The tubulin constitutes approximately 28% of the soluble protein of the nerve endings. The transport of tubulin to the nerve endings has been demonstrated and its relationship to slow transport is discussed.
Plants employ acentrosomal mechanisms to organize cortical microtubule arrays essential for cell growth and differentiation. Using structured illumination microscopy (SIM) adopted for the optimal documentation of Arabidopsis (Arabidopsis thaliana) hypocotyl epidermal cells, dynamic cortical microtubules labeled with green fluorescent protein fused to the microtubule-binding domain of the mammal...
Abstract Tau is a cytoskeletal protein that regulates microtubule polymerization in the axon. In diseases such as Alzheimer’s disease, tau forms insoluble aggregates somatodendritic compartment. How assembly without disrupting axonal transport and how dysfunction contributes to disease remains unclear. Here, we show live cell imaging super-resolution microscopy can help solve key questions abou...
objective(s):emap-like protein 5 (eml5) is a new echinoderm microtubule-associated protein that is expressed in the central nervous system. the aim of this study was to investigate the expression profile of eml5 in the anterior temporal neocortex of patients presenting with intractable epilepsy (ie). materials and methods:western blot assays were performed to determine eml5 expression in 36 sur...
During mitosis, sister chromatids attach to microtubules from opposite poles, called biorientation. Sister chromatid cohesion resists microtubule forces, generating tension, which provides the signal that biorientation has occurred. How tension silences surveillance pathways prevent cell cycle progression and correct erroneous kinetochore–microtubule attachments remains unclear. Here we show SU...
ABSTRACT Centrioles are microtubule-based cylindrical structures that assemble the centrosome and template formation of cilia. The proximal part centrioles is associated with pericentriolar material, a protein scaffold from which microtubules nucleated. This activity mediated by γ-tubulin ring complex (γTuRC) whose central role in centrosomal microtubule organization has been recognized for dec...
