this paper presents a new observer design methodology for a time varying actuator fault estimation. a new linear matrix inequality (lmi) design algorithm is developed to tackle the limitations (e.g. equality constraint and robustness problems) of the well known so called fast adaptive fault estimation observer (fafe). the fafe is capable of estimating a wide range of time-varying actuator fault...

the problem of observer design for nonlinear systems has got great attention in the recent literature. the nonlinear observer has been a topic of interest in control theory. in this research, a modified robust sliding-mode observer (smo) is designed to accurately estimate the state variables of nonlinear systems in the presence of disturbances and model uncertainties. the observer has a simple ...

BACKGROUND The purpose of this study is to determine whether a qualitative approach or a semi-quantitative approach provides the most robust method for early response evaluation with 2'-deoxy-2'-[(18)F]fluoro-D-glucose (F-18-FDG) positron emission tomography combined with whole body computed tomography (PET/CT) in non-small cell lung cancer (NSCLC). In this study eight Nuclear Medicine consulta...

Heart-like visualization as a substitute and supplement to canonical visualization contains more information than a canonical one, while at the same time being acceptable and recognizable to the observer. Heart-like visualization makes a quick and simple qualitative assessment of the condition of the evolution algorithm possible, and it is appropriate for a dynamic observance of algorithm flow.

This study examines how the movement patterns of individuals may reveal their intent. Subjects were asked to deceive an imaginary observer using a paper-and-pencil test. Geographical and qualitative methods were used to analyze the data. The results showed that deceptive intent can be detected in the subjects' trajectories. Additionally, conformity of trajectories was observed.

In this paper, we propose a new chaos-based communication scheme using the observers. The novelty lies in the masking procedure that is employed to hide the confidential information using the chaotic oscillator. We use a combination of the addition and inclusion methods to mask the information. The performance of two observers, the proportional observer (P-observer) and the proportional integra...

BACKGROUND Accurate estimates of multiple breath washout (MBW) outcomes require correct operation of the device, appropriate distraction of the subject to ensure they breathe in a manner representative of their relaxed tidal breathing pattern, and appropriate interpretation of the acquired data. Based on available recommendations for an acceptable MBW test, we aimed to develop a protocol to sys...

98 Introduction Collectively qualitative research is a group of methodologies, with each approach offering a different lens though which to explore, understand, interpret or explain phenomena in real word contexts and settings. This article will provide an overview of one of the many qualitative approaches, ethnography, and its relevance to healthcare. We will use an exemplar based on a study t...

Good user interfaces cannot be built on top of representations that ignore cogni-tive issues. This is particularly true for the representation of spatial knowledge, since space plays a preponderant role in human cognition. In this paper, we lay down the theoretical framework for a qualitative representation of space that takes cognitive aspects into consideration. A Knowledge Representation Mod...

We report an experiment designed to provide a qualitative contrast between knowledge-limited versions of mixed-state and variable-resources (VR) models of visual change detection. The key data pattern is that observers often respond “same” on big-change trials, while simultaneously being able to discriminate between same and small-change trials. The mixed-state model provides a natural account ...
