Let Tn be the space of fully-grown n-trees and let Vn and V ′ n be the representations of the symmetric groups n and n+1 respectively on the unique non-vanishing reduced integral homology group of this space. Starting from combinatorial descriptions of Vn and V ′ n , we establish a short exact sequence of Z n+1-modules, giving a description of V ′ n in terms of Vn and Vn+1. This short exact seq...

We give a short proof of the Buchstaber-Rees theorem concerning symmetric powers. The proof is based on the notion of a formal characteristic function of a linear map of algebras.

in this article, we show the existence of certain exact sequences with respect to two homology theories, called d-homology and extended d-homology. we present sufficient conditions for the existence of long exact extended d- homology sequence. also we give some illustrative examples.

The classical Stallings-Stammbach five-term exact sequence associated with a short exact sequence of groups is shown to exist in a general categorical context. This makes it possible to establish a new result relating low-dimensional homology and central series, which extends a well known result from the theory of groups.

A totally ordered monoid, or tomonoid for short, is a monoid endowed with a compatible total order. We deal in this paper with tomonoids that are finite and negative, where negativity means that the monoidal identity is the top element. Examples can be found, for instance, in the context of finite-valued fuzzy logic. By a Rees coextension of a negative tomonoid S, we mean a negative tomonoid T ...

These are notes for a lecture given at Ohio University on June 3, 2006. An important topic in commutative algebra is the Rees algebra of an ideal in a commutative ring. The Rees algebra encodes a lot of information about the ideal and corresponds geometrically to a blow-up. One can represent the Rees algebra as the quotient of a polynomial ring by an ideal. This ideal is generated by the defini...

In this paper we introduce a new definition of the first non-abelian cohomology of topological groups.  We relate the cohomology of a normal subgroup $N$ of a topological group $G$ and the quotient $G/N$ to the cohomology of $G$. We get the inflation-restriction exact sequence. Also, we obtain a seven-term exact cohomology sequence up to dimension 2. We give an interpretation of the first non-a...

It is not clear what dietary intake standards should be used for children with abnormal body size. To investigate the energy requirements of short-stature children with no underlying diseases, their resting energy requirements (REE) were measured by indirect calorimetry. The short-stature group consisted of 30 prepubertal children with short stature and with no underlying diseases (age 6y±2) ...
