Darwin-Foldy nuclear-size corrections in electronic atoms and nuclear radii are discussed from the nuclear-physics perspective. Interpretation of precise isotope-shift measurements is formalism dependent, and care must be exercised in interpreting these results and those obtained from relativistic electron scattering from nuclei. We strongly advocate that the entire nuclear-charge operator be u...

The parity violating longitudinal asymmetry A is calculated for quasielastic electron scattering. We use a variety of relativistic mean field models for the response of nuclear matter and 12 C at a momentum transfer of q=550 MeV/c. Relativistic effects from a reduced nucleon mass, RPA correlations and vacuum polarization can all change A by a relatively large amount. These large nuclear structu...

We show that the inclusion of special relativistic corrections in the revised OPAL and MHD equations of state has a significant impact on the helioseismic determination of the solar age. Models with relativistic corrections included lead to a reduction of about 0.05 − 0.08 Gyr with respect to those obtained with the old OPAL or MHD EOS. Our best-fit value is tseis = (4.57 ± 0.11) Gyr which is i...

The irnportance of relativistic and radiative corrections in atomic and molecular systems bas been emphasïzed by several authors [1,2] _ The usual point of departure has been the Breit equation [3], a generahzation of the Dirac equation representing two relativistic particles in an external fïeId. This theory is beheved to be correct to terms of order (v/c)~. In this paper we propose to calcula...

Relativistic corrections are investigated to the Gamow-Teller(GT) sum rule with respect to the difference between the β− and β+ transition strengths in nuclei. Since the sum rule requires the complete set of the nuclear states, the relativistic corrections come from the anti-nucleon degrees of freedom. In the relativistic mean field approximation, the total GT strengths carried by the nucleon s...
