Salmonellosis is a significant public health concern around the world. The issue of antibiotic resistance, particularly in non-typhoidal Salmonella (NTS), global threat to human and animal health. Thirty-five enterica subsp. serotype Typhimurium (S. Typhimurium) isolated from various chicken samples were tested for antimicrobial-resistant profiling using disc diffusion method. strains further e...

These revised recommendations of the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices update recommendations published in MMWR in 1994 and include updated information on the two currently available vaccines and on vaccine safety. They also include an update on the epidemiology of enteric fever in the United States, focusing on increasing drug resistance in Salmonella enterica serotype Typhi, the ca...

Infection with Salmonella enterica serotype Typhimurium sequence type (ST) 313 is associated with high rates of drug resistance, bloodstream infections, and death. To determine whether ST313 is dominant in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, we studied 180 isolates collected during 2007-2011; 96% belonged to CRISPOL type CT28, which is associated with ST313.

To conduct the first comprehensive analysis of Shigella flexneri serotype 4s, a novel serotype found in 2010, we identified 24 serotype 4s isolates from 1973 shigellosis cases in China (2002-2014). The isolates were characterized by single nucleotide polymorphism (SNP) phylogenetic analysis, pulsed-field gel electrophoresis (PFGE) and multilocus sequence typing (MLST) to determine their genetic...

This study presents serogroup 6 isolates from invasive pneumococcal disease (IPD) before and after the recommendation for childhood pneumococcal conjugate vaccination in Germany (July 2006). A total of 19,299 (children: 3508, adults: 15,791) isolates were serotyped. Serogroup 6 isolates accounted for 9.5% (children) and 6.7% (adults), respectively. 548 isolates had serotype 6A, 558 had serotype...

BACKGROUND Klebsiella pneumoniae is the major cause of liver abscesses in several Asian countries. Differences in the type of circulating Klebsiella strains and/or the genetic make up of the host seem to be plausible explanations for this. METHODS Two recent K. pneumoniae strains isolated from patients with liver abscess, one from Missouri in the US, and a second one from Singapore, were full...

Among foodborne pathogens, Salmonella present a significant public health hazard as Salmonella caused the greatest number of foodborne deaths in the United States and was among the top three most frequent causes of bacterial foodborne illness in the United States (Mead et al., 1999). In 2002, Salmonella Typhimurium and Salmonella Newport accounted for 2 of the top 3 most common Salmonella serov...

Water pollution is a major problem in India. Ganga is the most holy river of the country and contributes significantly in Indian economy. Water of river ganga has been polluted seriously in last few years. In the present study few isolates of Salmonella which are not so common in India were isolated from river Ganga were evaluated for the presence of virulence contributing genes. In present stu...

Epidemic strain Salmonella typhimurium DT104 is characterized by various multiresistance patterns. At least some of the resistance genes are organized as integrons. Resistance genes of DT104 isolates can be efficiently transduced by P22-like phage ES18 and by phage PDT17 which is released by all DT104 isolates so far analyzed. Cotransduction tests demonstrate that the resistance genes, although...
