A laser model is formulated in terms of quantum harmonic oscillators. Emitters the low lasing states are usual oscillators, and emitters upper inverted Diffusion coefficients, consistent with necessary for solving nonlinear equations analytically, found. Photon number fluctuations mode population calculated. Collective Rabi splitting peaks predicted intensity fluctuation spectra superradiant la...

The optical properties of a commercial parylene pellicle are obtained using a classical oscillator model with a single oscillator. Using a standard design antireflection stack and beam-splitter multilayer films coated on this pellicle, its performance is greatly improved, flattening the curve and increasing its useful spectral range.

We have created a computational model of the timing network that paces the heartbeat of the medicinal leech, Hirudo medicinalis. The rhythmic activity of this network originates from two segmental oscillators located in the third and fourth midbody ganglia. In the intact nerve cord, these segmental oscillators are mutually entrained to the same cycle period. Although experiments have shown that...

Rhythmic activity within the heartbeat pattern generator of the medicinal leech is based on the alternating bursting of mutually inhibitory pairs of oscillator heart interneurons (half-center oscillators). Bicuculline methiodide has been shown to block mutual inhibition between these interneurons and to cause them to spike tonically while recorded intracellularly (Schmidt and Calabrese, 1992). ...

Exciton effects on soliton and bipolaron lattice states are investigated using an electron-lattice Peierls model with long-range Coulomb interactions. The Hartree-Fock (HF) approximation and the single-excitation configurationinteraction (single-CI) method are used to obtain optical absorption spectra. We discuss the following properties: (1) The attraction between the excited electron and the ...

Mathematical model reduction is a long-standing technique used both to gain insight into model subprocesses and to reduce the computational costs of simulation and analysis. A reduced model must retain essential features of the full model, which, traditionally, have been the trajectories of certain state variables. For biological clocks, timing, or phase, characteristics must be preserved. A ke...

A quantum Kerr-nonlinear oscillator is a paradigmatic model in cavity and circuit electrodynamics, optomechanics. We theoretically study the echo phenomenon single impulsively excited (``kicked'') oscillator. reveal two types of echoes, ``quantum'' ``classical'' ones, emerging on long short time scales, respectively. The mechanisms echoes are discussed, their sensitivity to dissipation consider...

The principal goal of this research is developing physics-based, reduced-order, analytical models of nonlinear fluid-structure interactions associated with offshore structures. Our primary focus is to generalize the Hamilton's variational framework so that systems of flow-oscillator equations can be derived from first principles. This is an extension of earlier work that led to a single energy ...
