A 58 year old gentleman with complaints of palpitations and documented tachycardia was found to have a dilated right atrium, right ventricle and coronary sinus, which were due to partial unroofed coronary sinus without a left superior vena cava. He had upper septal ventricular tachycardia and atrio-ventricular nodal reentrant tachycardia, which was successfully treated by radiofrequency ablation.

A 70-year-old Chinese woman developed breathlessness, tachycardia and hypotension on the fourth day after total hip replacement. 12-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) showed sinus tachycardia with ST depression in I, II, V5 and V6. The ECG changes of sinus tachycardia along with a typical history is suggestive of pulmonary embolism. Diagnosis, treatment and the use of IVC filter for pulmonary embolis...

BACKGROUND The emergency department diagnosis of sinus versus nonsinus tachycardia is an important clinical challenge. The objective of this study was to identify subjects with a high prevalence of nonsinus tachycardia. METHODS Heart rate and cardiac rhythm were prospective reviewed in 500 consecutive patients with heart rate > or = 100 beats/min in a busy emergency department. A predictive m...

Background: Cardiac manifestations that occur in a majority of patients with organophosphate (OP) poisoning may range from innocuous electrocardiographic manifestations, such as sinus tachycardia, to life-threatening complications, including cardiogenic pulmonary edema and myocardial necrosis. In this study, we evaluated the various electrocardiographic manifestations in patients with OP pois...

Administration of adenosine triphosphate (ATP) in sinus rhythm identifies dual atrioventricular node physiology (DAVNP) in 75% of patients with inducible slow/fast AV nodal reentrant tachycardia (AVNRT). The incidence of DAVNP following termination of AVNRT with ATP is unknown. Incremental doses of ATP (10-60 mg) were administered, first in sinus rhythm and then during tachycardia induced at el...

A 65-year-old man, with no significant past medical history, presented with an episode of sudden onset palpitations and lightheadedness. He was hemodynamically stable and the ECG revealed a left bundle branch block (LBBB) morphology tachycardia at 214 beats per minute (Figure 1A). The tachycardia terminated spontaneously with conversion to normal sinus rhythm and LBBB (Figure 1B). Further evalu...

INTRODUCTION AND OBJECTIVE To study the action of adenosine in experimental ventricular tachycardia. MATERIAL AND METHOD We studied 173 mongrel dogs weighing 13-17 kg anesthetized with 30 mg/kg sodium pentobarbital given intravenously. Myocardial lesions were provoked with the injection of 1-1.5 mL phenol in the free wall of the left ventricle. Ventricular arrhythmia was induced 30 min later ...

Inappropriate sinus tachycardia is defined as sinus tachycardia at rest (heart rate ≥100 bpm) in sitting position or/and as an average heart rate ≥90 bpm during 24-hour Holter monitoring. The most common symptoms are palpitation, dizziness, chest discomfort, orthostatic intolerance, and fatigue. Sometimes, the symptoms can be severe and debilitating, and its etiology is not well understood. Pha...

Incidence and prognostic relevance of supraventricular arrhythmias were evaluated in nine studies. These studies investigated patients with different forms of pulmonary hypertension. Supraventricular arrhythmias were more often found in patients with group two pulmonary hypertension. Common findings in these patients were elevated right atrial pressure and diameters and reduced tricuspid annula...
