Prospects for utilizing whole-genome association analysis in autogamous plant populations appear promising due to the reported high levels of linkage disequilibrium (LD). To determine the optimal strategies for implementing association analysis in soybean (Glycine max L. Merr.), we analyzed the structure of LD in three regions of the genome varying in length from 336 to 574 kb. This analysis wa...
Both spotted cDNAs and 70-mer oligo arrays are available for global gene expression analyses and represent over 36,000 members of the soybean (Glycine max) unigene set. The cDNA resources have been described (Vodkin et al., 2004; http://soybeangenomics.cropsci.uiuc.edu) and used to investigate many biological questions including the processes of somatic embryogenesis (Thibaud-Nissen et al., 200...
Adenine phosphoribosyltransferase activity was measured in extracts of soybean (Glycine max var. Acme) callus and of senescing barley leaves (Hordeum distichon c.v. Prior). The enzyme from soybean callus had Michaelis constants for adenine and 5-phosphoribosyl pyrophosphate of 1.5 and 7.5 mum respectively and was inhibited by AMP and stimulated by ATP. The presence of kinetin was found to consi...
Bacillus velezensis strain S141 is a plant growth-promoting rhizobacterium isolated from soybean (Glycine max) rhizosphere that enhances soybean growth, nodulation, and N2 fixation efficiency by coinoculation with Bradyrhizobium diazoefficiens USDA110. The S141 genome was identified to comprise a 3,974,582-bp-long circular DNA sequence encoding at least 3,817 proteins.
Nucleoside diphosphatase activity has been found in the cytosol of soybean (Glycine max) and alfalfa (Medicago satavia) nodules. The enzyme differs from other diphosphatases in that it does not exhibit a strong preference for one nucleoside diphosphate over another. Very little, if any, diphosphatase activity was detected in root extracts of alfalfa and soybean seedlings.
The major pest of soybean (Glycine max) is the soybean cyst nematode (SCN), Heterodera glycines. One population of SCN can evoke a resistant response while a second population can evoke a susceptible response from the same soybean cultivar. Recently, interactions between SCN and soybean roots have been studied using commercially available microarrays to measure both soybean and nematode transcr...
Evaluation of the effect maternal Soybean (Glycine max) nutrition on seed quality traits under accelerated aging test
Soybean (Glycine max [L.] Merr.) is a major crop species and, therefore, a major target of genomic and genetic research. However, in contrast to other plant species, relatively few chromosomal aberrations have been identified and characterized in soybean. This is due in part to the difficulty of cytogenetic analysis of its small, morphologically homogeneous chromosomes. The recent development o...
Pigeonpea, Cajanus cajan (L.) Millsp. (Leguminosae), was found hosting Piezodorus guildinii (Westwood) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) in Paraná State, Brazil. In the laboratory, nymphs performed better on immature pods of soybean, Glycine max (L.) Merrill (Leguminosae), than on immature pods of pigeonpea. Although nymphs required similar time to complete development, and attained similar weights at ...
