The electronic structure of isolated bis(phthalocyaninato) terbium(III) molecules, a novel single-molecular-magnet (SMM), supported on the Cu(111) surface has been characterized by density functional theory and scanning tunneling spectroscopy. These studies reveal that the interaction with the metal surface preserves both the molecular structure and the large spin magnetic moment of the metal c...

Single Molecular Magnets(SMM), has attracted much interest. Their large spin and quantum behavior at a mesoscopic scale, indicates rich physics behind these unusual phenomena as well as prospective application values. In this article, quantum tunneling magnetization (QTM), the origin of the magnetism in SMM, is discussed. Then it is followed by two typical cases: integer spin SMM and 1/2 spin SMM.

Methionine (Met) S-methyltransferase (MMT) catalyzes the synthesis of S-methyl-Met (SMM) from Met and S-adenosyl-Met (Ado-Met). SMM can be reconverted to Met by donating a methyl group to homocysteine (homo-Cys), and concurrent operation of this reaction and that mediated by MMT sets up the SMM cycle. SMM has been hypothesized to be essential as a methyl donor or as a transport form of sulfur, ...

Macromolecular prodrugs are very useful systems for achieving controlled drug release and drug targeting. In particular, various macromolecule-antitumor drug conjugates enhance the effectiveness and improve the toxic side effects. Also, polymeric micro- and nanoparticles have been actively examined and their in vivo behaviors elucidated, and it has been realized that their particle characterist...

Molecular spintronic applications require that SMMs remain intact and retain their magnetic properties when deposited on a substrate. An organic spacer between the SMM surface helps its surface.

Scientimammography (SMM) is a new non-invasive method of imaging breast tumors which in various studies the overall sensitivity of 83%-95.8% and specificity of 52%-95% is reported. The purpose of our study was to evaluate the usefullness of 99mTc-MIBI SMM in our environment in detecting breast cancer and in reducing the rate of biopsy. 65 patients aged 23-70 years were included in this st...

Subspace multinomial model (SMM) is a log-linear model and can be used for learning low dimensional continuous representation for discrete data. SMM and its variants have been used for speaker verification based on prosodic features and phonotactic language recognition. In this paper, we propose a new variant of SMM that introduces sparsity and call the resulting model as `1 SMM. We show that `...

BACKGROUND Skeletal muscle mass (SMM) can be extracted from whole-body scans obtained by X-ray-based dual-photon absorptiometry (DXA). There is a need to establish expected age-dependent values for children and adolescents. METHODS Appendicular lean tissue mass (ALM) was extracted from whole-body DXA scans in 140 healthy children and adolescents (68 females and 72 males). Whole-body SMM was c...

All flowering plants produce S-methylmethionine (SMM) from Met and have a separate mechanism to convert SMM back to Met. The functions of SMM and the reasons for its interconversion with Met are not known. In this study, by using the aphid stylet collection method together with mass spectral and radiolabeling analyses, we established that l-SMM is a major constituent of the phloem sap moving to...

A dinuclear Dy(III) compound (1) was structurally and magnetically characterized, displaying a single-molecule magnet (SMM) behavior with a relaxation energy barrier of 21(1) K. Interestingly, by only adding a suitable substituent on the ligand in , as an SMM building unit, can be further assembled into a two-dimensional (2D) framework (2), which possesses a typical SMM behavior and a high rela...
