Chondral tumors in soft tissue are referred to as soft-tissue chondromas or extraskeletal chondromas, or as synovial chondromatosis if they arise in synovial tissue. We report the case of a 29-year-old man with synovial chondromatosis, also called synovial osteochondromatosis, which appeared in a solitary and extra-articular form. On magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and computed tomography, the...

A 38-year-old woman presented with a very large synovial chondromatosis arising from the interphalangeal joint of the thumb. The tumor surrounded the interphalangeal joint and its size was approximately 3 cm. The range of motion was almost fused. Plain radiographs showed an extra-osseous tumor shadow with calcifications. The patient had no local recurrence at one year of follow-up after margina...

Synovial chondromatosis of the temporomandibular joint is a rare disease, and extra-articular synovial condromatosis of the temporomandibular joint is even rarer. A review of the English literature from 1980 to 2000 has revealed 51 cases of synovial chondromatosis affecting the temporomandibular joint. We report a case of extra-articular synovial condromatosis, for which we carried out a long-t...

INTRODUCTION Synovial chondromatosis is a rare, generally benign condition which affects the synovial membranes and commonly involves the large joints such as the knee, and hip. It is usually mono-articular and more common in males. Synovial chondromatosis is characterized by the presence of multiple cartilaginous nodules in the joint synovium. The definitive diagnosis is achieved after the pat...

Osteochondromas are common benign bone tumors. Synovial chondromatosis is a benign cartilaginous metaplasia that occurs in the synovium. The authors describe a unique case of synovial chondromatosis developing in the pes anserine bursa secondary to an underlying osteochondroma of the proximal medial tibia. It is unusual to see both of these processes occurring simultaneously in 1 location. Afte...

Synovial chondromatosis affecting the glenohumeral joint is rare. Treatment primarily consists of arthroscopic loose body removal and synovectomy. Shoulder arthroplasty has been mentioned in the literature as a treatment option for patients with coexisting arthritis, although the results have been underreported. The case of an 84-year-old man with long standing synovial chondromatosis of the sh...

Primary synovial chondromatosis typically affects the large joints in the third to fifth decade of life, although involvement of smaller joints and presentation in younger age group is also documented. The purpose of this case report is ...

There are only a few reported cases of synovial chondromatosis affecting pisotriquetral joint (PT). Osteoarthritis of the PT is also rare and can be as disabling as osteoarthritis of any other joint. We report this to be the unique case of synovial chondromatosis of the PT joint with secondary osteoarthritis.

Abstract Two cases (20 and 15 years old) of shoulder joint synovial chondromatosis were initially treated with arthroscopic debridement. One was further treated with a second arthroscopy and partial synovectomy (case 1) the second was fully treated by arthroscopic surgery (case 2). The postoperative control X- ray revealed no loose body and the joint was normal. One of the cases (case 1) was a...
