Though being an importance trace element required for normal metabolic activities, copper has some adverse effects in various organ-systems including testis. Occupational exposure to copper in different industries may result in abnormal rise in plasma copper level which can bring about spermatogenic inhibition. Our findings on inhibition of spermatogenesis and decrease in testosterone productio...

This study investigated the effects of sericin on the testicular growth hormone (GH)/insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1) axis in rats with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Forty rats were randomly assigned to normal control, type 2 diabetes mellitus, sericin and metformin treated groups. Type 2 diabetes was established by repeated intraperitoneal injection of streptozotocin, and identified by blood g...

Interstitial cell tumor of the testis in an adult male can present with feminization and psychologic changes. The feminization and psychologic changes most likely reflect production of estrogen by the interstitial cell tumor. Removal of the tumor causes rapid return of the pituitary-testicular axis to normal, loss of feminization, and development of male psychosocial characteristics.

In utero and lactational exposure to organophosphate dimethoate exerted toxic impact on the reproductive system of male mice. Pregnant mice were exposed to 4, 8, and 16 mg/kg of the pesticide, the sublethal doses (2.5, 5, and 10% of Lethal Dose(50) [LD(50)]), via gavaging from gestation day (GD) 6 to postnatal day (PND) 21. The effects on the male reproductive system were evaluated at two stage...

As a first step of investigating male predominance of bladder cancer incidence, we have studied relationships between rat bladder carcinogenesis, induced by BBN, and changes of pituitary-testicular axis, induced by a LH-RH analogue. The rats were divided into the following five groups. The first group (Age matched control group) was given normal drinking water for 30 weeks. The 2nd group (BBN g...
