Thenar and hypothenar hammer syndromes are uncommon conditions characterised by digital ischemia of the hand as a result of repetitive trauma at level of the thenar and/or hypothenar eminence and damage to the radial and/or ulnar arteries, respectively. The symptoms are related to the mechanism of the trauma and a Raynaud's phenomenon can be predominant for a long time. The angiography is the "...
INTRODUCTION Myositis ossificans is a benign, self-limiting, tumor-like lesion that usually affects the elbow and thigh; occurrence in the hand is uncommon. We report a rare case of a patient with myositis ossificans in the thenar region. CASE PRESENTATION A 15-year-old Japanese girl presented to our hospital with a 2-month history of a painful mass in the right thenar region without previous...
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Between 2014 and 2016, thenar fascial flaps and nail bed grafts were used in five patients. All the patients had full-thickness nail bed defects due to machines or door jamming incidents, and the sizes of the defects were more than half of the whole nail bed. We designed the flaps as general thenar flaps, performed suprafascial dissection, and elevated the dermal flaps pr...
We present the case of a patient who developed pneumomediastinum after high pressure air injection to the hand. To our knowledge this is the first reported case of pneumomediastinum where the gas injection site was the thenar eminence. Fortunately the patient recovered with conservative management.
The authors report a rare observation of 60-year-old woman presenting with giant thenar lipoma associated acroparesthesia due to compression the median nerveby lipoma. MRI is exam choice study local extent tumor, histological examination after complete excision tumor remains only means diagnostic affirmation.
Thenar motor unit counts were done in 19 subjects with symptoms characteristic of the carpal tunnel syndrome. Three-quarters of the patients had motor unit count estimates less than 2 SD lower limit of controls. Despite this, most did not have thenar wasting or weakness. Functional compensation by motor unit remodelling probably kept pace with motor axon loss and masked the true extent of axona...

We present a case report of a free thenar flap surgery done for a volar right hand middle finger, distal and middle phalanx degloving injury. A free thenar flap is a fasciocutaneous sensate flap supplied by a constant branch of the superficial radial artery and its variable nerve supply. It has a distinct advantage of low donor site morbidity, better cosmesis and texture of the flap. No immobil...
The effect of surface electrode positioning on the evoked compound action potential (ECAP) was studied during inhalation anaesthesia without neuromuscular blockade. The ECAP of five full-term infants (aged 2-20 weeks) and five children (age 1-10 yr) was recorded with a neuromuscular relaxation monitor (Relaxograph, Datex) after supramaximal ulnar nerve stimulation. The five recording electrode ...
