A general route for the functionalization of graphene and graphene derivatives with a low molecular weight polymer by thiol-radical reactions is reported. Polymer-modified graphene is employed as a filler for high density polyethylene to generate materials with good electrical conductivity.

Rapid and highly efficient side-chain functionalization of polypeptides was achieved via combination of ring-opening polymerization of a new clickable monomer of γ-propargyl-L-glutamate N-carboxyanhydride (PLG-NCA) and thiol-yne photochemistry, which provides a convenient and universal route to prepare diverse polypeptide-based biomimetic hybrid materials.

We demonstrate a tandem truncation-functionalization strategy using the 3D covalent organic framework, COF-102. Allyl groups incorporated within the pore walls were subjected to thiol-ene coupling conditions, achieving high conversions and maintaining the crystallinity and permanent porosity of the parent framework.

The first general open-flask synthesis of amine-boranes with inexpensive and readily available reagents, such as sodium borohydride, sodium bicarbonate, water, and the desired amines is described. Even amines bearing borane-reactive functionalities, such as alkene, alkyne, hydroxyl, thiol, ester, amide, nitrile, and nitro are well tolerated. Some of these novel amine-boranes represent stable mo...

Direct C-H functionalization and arylation of benzyl ethers has been accomplished via photoredox organocatalysis. The productive merger of a thiol catalyst and a commercially available iridium photoredox catalyst in the presence of household light directly affords benzylic arylation products in good to excellent yield. The utility of this methodology is further demonstrated in direct arylation ...

The easy functionalization of tags and solid supports with the vinyl sulfone function is a valuable tool in omic sciences that allows their coupling with the amine and thiol groups present in the proteogenic residues of proteins, in mild and green conditions compatible with their biological function.

Multifunctionalized macromers react via a copper-free click chemistry to form an idealized 3D hydrogel. Subsequently, thiol-containing biomolecules are spatially patterned within the material with precise control over the amount and location of functionalization. Both the network formation and subsequent patterning reactions are fully cytocompatible, allowing these systems to be used to study i...

Our new approach using centrifugal force provides a simple and foolproof method for the phase transfer of metal nanoparticles to organic solvents. The centrifugation following functionalization by thiol-containing molecules on the metal nanoparticles in water pushed the metal nanoparticles down to the chloroform compulsorily.

We show a simple method toward nanoscale cilia-like structures, i.e., functional hairy surfaces, upon topochemically functionalizing nanorods of cellulose nanocrystals (CNCs) with thiol end groups (CNC-SHs), which leads to their immobilization onto a gold surface from one end, still allowing their orientational mobility. CNCs having a lateral dimension of 3-5 nm and length of 50-500 nm incorpor...

The enzyme silicatein has been bioengineered to carry a thiol-bearing Au-affinity tag (Cys-tag) for direct immobilization on gold carriers in shortest time without the need for prior surface functionalization. Through microcontact printing, defined silicatein micropatterns were created on gold surfaces, facilitating the subsequent enzymatically controlled synthesis of photocatalytically active ...
