A new theoretical method for computing travel distance, number of turns, and cyclone pressure drop has been developed and is presented in this article. The flow pattern and cyclone dimensions determine the travel distance in a cyclone. The effective number of turns was calculated based on the travel distance. Cyclone pressure drop is composed of five pressure loss components. The frictional pre...

Exhumation has been recognized as an important problem in tectonics and can be achieved by normal faulting, ductile thinning, and erosion. The exhumation of ultrahigh-pressure (UHP) rocks is the most challenging and least understood aspect of the exhumation problem. In this review, we focus on a variety of geologic settings with the goal of characterizing exhumation rates and maximum depths of ...

An email system is a critical business tool and an essential part of organisational communication. Many organisations have experienced negative impacts from email and have responded by electronically monitoring and restricting email system use. However, electronic monitoring of email can be contentious. Staff can react to these controls by dissent, protest and potentially transformative action....

Tire Pressure Monitoring Systems represent, to the best of our knowledge, the first in-car wireless network mandated for every new automobile. The security and privacy implications of such incar wireless sensor networks are not fully understood— in particular, it is unclear whether the metal car body sufficiently shields these low-power transceivers from eavesdropping and outside interference. ...

Fatigue and driver drowsiness monitoring is an important subject for designing driver assistance systems. The measurement of eye closure is a fundamental step for driver awareness detection. We propose a method which is based on eyelid detection and the measurement of the distance between the eyelids. First, the face and the eyes of the driver are localized. After extracting the eye region, the...

A real-time non-invasive method for mean arterial blood pressure (MAP) estimation is presented. MAP is estimated by effectively combining two components: one describing the low frequency behaviour and one the fast variations of MAP. The method, developed on 20 volunteers under anaesthesia allows for statistically significant improvement with respect to the standard cuff system. This approach re...

This study attempted to identify the factors that affect the pressure pain threshold (PPT) on the heel region of the foot. Using dimensional analysis, it was found that probe area (A), indentation speed (V) and their interaction contribute towards PPT. A power form of these factors can be used to model PPT with an exponent of 0.63.

Phonemic settings and the internal models that they represent are learned in the process of language and speech acquisition. Postural settings, in contrast, rely on continuous auditory monitoring and tend to break down quickly if this monitoring process is inhibited during speech production. Evidence presented in the literature seems to indicate that stable internal models are mostly associated...
