Benign prostate enlargement (BPE) is a highly prevalent pathology (1). The main consequence of BPE is Bladder Outlet Obstruction (BOO). Patients with BOO may be bothered by voiding lower urinary tract symptoms (LUTS). Those men with BOO and significant LUTS which did not respond to clinical approaches may be candidate to surgical procedures. In patients with prostate volume inferior to 80-100 g...

In the past 2 decades, endoscopic enucleation of the prostate has become a safe and effective surgical treatment for benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH), with comparable outcomes to traditional surgeries. Transurethral vapor enucleation and resection of the prostate (TVERP), transurethral vapor enucleation of the prostate (TVEP), and ultrasound-navigated TVEP (US-TVEP) are new, innovative endosc...

Fifty patients with localized prostate cancer, clinical stage T1-T2N0M0 were studied. The therapy started with androgen deprivation therapy for 3 months to reduce the volume of prostate about 35%. High-energy transurethral microwave thermotherapy (TUMT) was then performed. Transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP) was performed in radical fashion at least 3 months after TUMT to confirm the...

Here, we compared the effects of bipolar and monopolar transurethral resection of the prostate (B-TURP, M-TURP) for treating elderly patients (≥75 years) with benign prostatic hyperplasia(BPH) who had internal comorbidities. Eligible BPH patients were aged ≥75 years and had at least one internal comorbidity. In this open-label, prospective trial, patients were assigned to B-TURP (n = 75) and M-...

Venous air embolism is a rare complication during transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP). We report a case of air embolism during TURP under general anesthesia in a 56-year-old man. Incorrect assembly of the resectoscope-drain aspiration system caused rapid entrainment of air into the vein of the prostate bed. Rapid recognition of the condition and prompt treatment are required.
