BACKGROUND Although highly active antiretroviral therapy (HAART) reduces mortality in the developed world, it remains undocumented in resource-poor settings. We assessed the effect of HAART on patient mortality and tuberculosis incidence rate under routine clinical care conditions in Ethiopia. The objective of this study was to assess the effect of HAART on patient mortality and tuberculosis in...
We analyzed mortality among 201 patients with AIDS and tuberculosis in Haiti. Patients who received a diagnosis of tuberculosis during the first 3 months after the initiation of antiretroviral therapy were 3.25 times more likely to die than were other patients with AIDS and tuberculosis. Failure to recognize active tuberculosis at initiation of antiretroviral therapy leads to increased mortality.
BACKGROUND Tuberculosis is a leading cause of death in people living with HIV (PLWH). We conducted a meta analysis to assess the effect of tuberculosis on mortality in people living with HIV. METHODS Meta-analysis of cohort studies assessing the effect of tuberculosis on mortality in PLWH. To identify eligible studies we systematically searched electronic databases (until December 2008), perf...
Background: Infectious diseases are usually treatable however, infectious disease is one of the most common causes of mortality in hospitals. Furthermore, an apparent functional stagnation around the weekends in hospitals can increase the mortality rate. The goal of this study is to describe the causes and predisposing factors of mortality and to evaluate the role of holidays on patient mortali...

We evaluated the factors associated with all-cause mortality in patients with tuberculosis in Washington State. METHODS Using data from the Tuberculosis Information Management System of Washington State, we conducted a cohort study of all residents diagnosed with tubercul...

This non-concurrent cohort study aims to identify predictors of tuberculosis mortality in a large population database in Brazil. Tuberculosis, death, and TB/HIV cases were validated respectively from the tuberculosis surveillance (SINAN/TB), mortality (SIM), and SINAN/AIDS databases for a five-year period. Analysis included proportional hazard models with relative risk estimates. Out of 5,451 i...
